Kitchen Storage Dilemma.

We recently put a half cupboard height rubbish bin in beside the kitchen sink...but it takes up only 1/4 of that cupboard space, which means the dirty bin has to share it's space with saucepans, chopping boards etc. Quite frequently the drips and crumbs of food etc...from the bin...end up under or beside the bin..with my saucepans and boards!!..which doesn't seem very hygienic!!!

A fairly standard thing to keep near a bin is spuds, onions etc, but they are in my under sink cupboard...and vegies etc is an even more unhygienic than just cookingware!!

The only alternative i can think of is to empty out the cupboard..and not store ANYTHING in the cupboard where the bin is!!...or I could consider closing off one side of the cupboard (where the doors meet) so as to seperate the bin side...to use the other for my saucepans etc.
Suggestions please?
