New kitchen design dilemma
Comments (6)The choice of oven will affect the layout of your kitchen. You want an efficient layout, which is what I'd describe as the working triangle (fridge, sink and oven/cooktop). The advantage of 2 wall ovens is that you can be cooking 2 things simultaneously (like a roast and desert at the same time - 2 completely different dishes) which makes your time in the kitchen more efficient. There is a trend towards multiple wall ovens for kitchens, so this will add value to the property as kitchens are a major selling point. If you go ahead with an underbench oven I'd recommend it to be 900mm wide and with a matching cooktop and rangehood, because it a family home and anything smaller will not cater to your family or add value to your home. The picture below is an example of a kitchen with multiple wall ovens. For this particular project, there is a butlers pantry where you'll find all the electrical kitchen appliance including the microwave. I would also say butlers pantry's are very desirable at the moment and even necessary like an ensuite. From the floor plan you've provided it looks like your pantry is open, you could consider installing a sliding door to achieve a butlers pantry. The other option for your microwave is to include an open shelf in your island bench. Just make sure you have a power point installed which shouldn't be an issue since you have the dishwasher located there also. Good luck with your project. Looks like you have most of the major design questions resolved....See MoreKitchen Reno dilemma
Comments (20)I think the decision rests with whether you NEED a butlers pantry! No point in putting one in just because the room is there. But as one post suggested you could loose the current pantry, thus enlarging the family room, and then you maybe have need for a large pantry. I am a little dubious about a 'butlers pantry' idea in general - a storage pantry is most useful but having appliances etc in another room just means more walking from room to room during meal preparation. I think deciding to include a butlers pantry would require a great deal of thought on exactly how you would use the space. A cleanup space - yes that could be handy; where dishes and pots could be stashed during a meal, saving the kitchen proper for serving up. Still means a lot of walking! I think the kitchen work triangle is still a useful concept! And those big island benches with a sink - so your guests can sit and chat while you cook, and watch the dishes piling up under their noses? Ugh! Not for me! They look lovely when clean and EMPTY, but as a usable sociable area, not practical. (Sorry for the rant; has nothing to do with your question or your kitchen, but this is a bugbear of mine!)...See MoreSmall house kitchen/dining dilemma
Comments (6)something like this might suit by moving not enlarging the door between kitchen and living allows for better use of wall space with a tall pantry and base cabinet with wall shelves continuing over the couch space, continuing base cabinets along the north wall with a a modest island and extending dining table with extra folding chairs stored in the pantry...See Morebedroom entry and storage space dilemma
Comments (11)i still don't understand your plans...do the measurements include the wardrobe spaces, we need measurements of the rooms excluding all built ins) does upstairs include a master bedroom, two smaller bedrooms, a walk in storage room, one bathroom and the upstairs living area?? we need the size of all the rooms including the decks to know how they can be used ...no point rearranging one side if that spoils how the other rooms can be used ..and is the house on three levels and/or why is there extra stairs from the laundry and is this a renovation or a new building?...See MoreMade In Italy Kitchens
