With tilt and turn windows I can only think of two options, either face mounted shutters to the actual window, which the fabricator might offer, or a rod hung on the face of wall above the window opening, to avoid the window catching on them. A track sheer or drape will work aesthetically, but practically?? Presuming when the windows open, so too would the curtain, it only matters at the end of day when you want to close up and have privacy, so perhaps a holland blind (pull down) so it's least conspicuous.

Ok, so I decided to clean the outside of the kitchen windows. They look great. Not so great, (in fact vomit material as I have been dry retching trying to deal with the situation) is that some water got into the inside track of one of the windows (the one that doesn't open). I didn't think anything of it figuring the water will evaporate. What I hadn't taken into account was the smell. There has been a faint smell and I couldn't work out what it was - until I discovered the water in the track. OMG does it stink. I have been trying to mop it up with kitchen towelling and nearly vomiting in the process. I have tried blow drying it - just spreads smell even worse. Any ideas as I am gagging? The smell is now spreading......

It used to be cleaning gutters but we wisely had gutterguards installed: brilliant timesaver and no more clogged gutters as we have three enormous trees shedding leaves all year. Cleaning windows is next: when I do them I seem to pick the wrong day as it always seems to rain a few days later and next thing they're all coated n dust again.

I designed my house in 1988 to be 'passive solar' - I looked at Louvres back then but chose Awnings bcoz the Louvres in 1988 did not have screens or Locks… I think if you lived somewhere really cold you get more benefit from 'double glazing'- but, these days the really cold Northern countries use 'triple glaze' and thermal energy... for you, opting for a few on your Northern side with deep eaves would be sensible A couple of years ago, I finally replaced my Block-Out Verticals with Plantation Shutters - the Plantations look great and when shut keep heat and cold out... the verticals did the same thing but the look was outdated and got ratty ….
