i too prefer symmetry but with limited space this option has worked well for me to store all the things you mentioned including a vacuum cleaner and carpet shampooer but another option for you could be to have the original arrangement and use the broom space as an alcove without a door or walls keeping in mind that the counter needs to be at least 2150 wide for the laundry basket, washer, dryer and skinny tub and should be at least 650mm deep to allow for the water hoses and cords and power points behind, leaving an alcove about 450mm by 1m with no door and a very narrow side opening to squeeze everything in

This isn't a layout issue it is an infrastructure and planning issue. The key question is what is directly below this room? Is it your flat? or is it somebody else's flat? Or a Carpark owned by the body corporate? Be sure you know IF the sewage/waste can be piped through your floor and connected to the main sewer line BEFORE you start even thinking about the layout. Everything is a compromise. The compromise in your home is that your bathroom space was created without a toilet in mind. Personally if the need for a second toilet in a house isn't that great that I wouldn't create a cramped bathroom in the name of it. Here's your choices. Extra toilet in the bathroom and shower over bath. Extra toilet in the bathroom and freestanding shower only. Renovate your bathroom as is and cope with one toilet in the house. I would weigh up how often you actually have a need for 2 toilets. Is it common that someone is waiting for the toilet in your household? If not, then it's probably something you could live without. Houses were created with powder rooms to over come the issue of the toilet being unavailable when someone is showering. They weren't really created because there are so many people needing to use one that multiples are needed to be used at the same time.

I hate toilets without basins. It's such a design fail, and kind of grossly unhygienic. But putting new plumbing in and moving walls can get really expensive fast. I suspect that one of those loos with the cistern basin is definitely the most cost effective way to deal with the problem. For some reason I've never like them though. What are your walls made from? If they're solid brick, and if the floor in the bathroom is different from the hall then moving the wall out could get quite expensive. Also, how are you going to deal with the plumbing? You'll have to run it along the side wall somehow, or chisel out water and waste pipes through the floor. If you reverse the door so it hinges out into the hall, and not into the bathroom, you might just have room for a small basin, especially on the hinge side. Your room is really narrow so your basin has to be teeny tiny. Maybe an oval shape, so there's no corners to bump into. Something like one of these? There's loads available online now.
