How often do you replace your pillow?

There's no way to soften the blow, you're probably sleeping on a host of microscopic bugs, dead skin cells and other allergens. If you've realised much too late that you're lying on a disgusting old pillow — no doubt full of germs and allergens — you've probably shared my horror and wondered... how old is too old?

There are numerous hygienic and health reasons to keep your pillows fresh but theories abound on how often we should all update our pillows.

On my research, changing your pillow every two years looks wise, while using a pillow cover in addition to the pillowcase can double that amount of time. Regardless, occasional washing of any pillow will avoid a build-up of dead skin, dust mites and other allergens.

Let me know in the comments how often you replace your pillow and any horror stories you have of pillows that should have been put to sleep much earlier.
