If you could change ONE thing in your garden...
Comments (8)Hi Angela, great idea to plant a tree! We lived in Alice Springs for 6 years and found that a couple of shade trees made such a huge difference to our enjoyment of being out in the garden, We loved being outside for breakfast and later in the day/early evening. We noticed that Chinese Elm trees grew well and relatively quickly and we had a fast growing Mullberry tree there too, (although the fruit do stain when you tread on them). Brazilian Peppercorn trees grow very fast there too, but become a huge bush if you don't keep pruning them to the shape you want as they grow. I love that you're planting natives too, as they attracted birds to our garden, along with the trees. Murrayas are a lush green 2-3 metre fast growing shrub which thrive in Alice too. We planted several after realizing they grow there in full sun and/or part shade. They have white flowers with a beautiful perfume....See MoreWhat would you most like to change about your kitchen?
Comments (18)chookchook2 - we have linoleum in our kitchen. 10 years on, still looks great, easy to clean, forgiving underfoot and dropped items don't always break :) Love it so much, we will be using it throughout our new beach house (except bathrooms). Try searching Forbo Marmoleum - the colours alone are eye candy, and you may find a link to a state rep....See MoreWould you like to raise chickens in your backyard?
Comments (25)We have a small inner-city backyard with three chooks. They live in a chicken tractor which we built to sit on top of our raised veggie beds. After a harvest is complete, the chooks clean up, till and fertilise the soil. They get let out to free range, and we throw any garden clippings in there, as well as all the food scraps from our kitchen (we have a toddler so there's no shortage of scraps). I buy pellets for $1.50/kg from our local pet wholesaler and they eat about a kilo per week. The coop is totally vermin/fox proof because it's on raised veggie beds, and it doesn't smell at all. It makes our veggie gardens much more productive, with very little work from us. Plus we get 2-3 eggs every day!...See MoreWould you plan your renovation/extension differently next time around
Comments (23)Hello, I'm not a specialist, and I don't know if I can give you any good suggestions. However, every time I change houses, I work with a property buying company. They are the best ones in this domain, they aren't designers, but I am sure if you'll contact them they might give you some tips or someone to get in contact with to solve your problem. If I have to be honest, I won't make changes like this in my house, and I would choose to buy another one or change something inside my house. I'm not a fan of reconstructions. That's why I'm a little reserved about this topic....See MoreUser
