Colour carpet?

Hi!
We have started looking picking out carpet, floorboards and doing our kitchen design in our new house. We are going with NSW Spotted Gum solid hardwood floors. Our home will be a mix of white/off white, grey and timber. Our general theme is greys, whites and timber and we will be adding lots of soft furnishings and artworks to introduce bright colours.
We have a semi open plan layout downstairs with the open plan kitchen and dining having floorboards and the lounge being carpet. The dining meets the lounge so these spaces need to flow.
We have not yet selected our lounge suite but it will be fabric and will likely be a textured charcoal colour/brown etc.
This photo is an example of our style, although this image does not include grey walls.
What colour carpet would you put directly up against NSW spotted gum floors and with this colour scheme and style?
We are currently looking at the stain master series of carpets found here http://www.stainmaster.com.au

I would love any ideas. I have no idea where to start.

I love hardwood spotted gum floors, they add so much warmth to a space. I'm trying to visualise your space, but I'd be inclined to go for a light shade, maybe a light pebble grey to complement your walls, and add texture with a charcoal suite. Good luck!

I saw a Redbook carpet today at Carpet Court with a friend call 19 Espresso which had tones of grey/brown which would work with that flooring.

beejas, You obviously already have allot of timber and I think certainly stick with the timber but you might like to use some nice carpet squares under the bed so that its a bit more cosy in winter. Houzz had a forum on the correct placing of carpet squares in and around furniture including bedrooms, as well as suggestions on types of material and suitable colours, if you search, you'll find great inspiration. I always like a window that comes close to the floor. Can you do hardwood instead of carpeting? The carpets you are looking at strike me as less easy to keep clean. They aren't a flat surface so that dirt may get trapped?

I like the idea of hardwood flooring and as previously said you can add nice rugs for comfort and texture, they can be changed out at any time for a different look or fashion, I found light carpet shows all spills and marks and as also previously said here dark colours show lint, animal fur and anything lighter like fluff ...I do think hardwood floors in the long run keep you from having to re-do carpet especially as you have no idea how the renters will treat your investment. I also find myself having hardwood flooring with rugs it is all so easy to keep clean.

Thanks everyone. Still a lot to consider. We will do boards throughout the house one day in the future, probably not bedrooms though. The Jarrah is on top of radiata or cypress pine that is full of inspection hatches so will be a bit soft and rough to polish up. After living with a softwood polished floor I’d be hesitant to do it again. Looking at these photos I’ve saved for ideas I think we can use the beige. Which actually comes up a warm grey in certain lighting….
