You can get basically 3 types of floating floors. I have different types of flooring explained on my website and it shows you the make up of each floor... What I would look for is....a floating timber floor with a minimum of 6mls of timber on it.. This way you can actually sand the floor just like a regular floor board. Make sure that you have someone to lay it that has experience...it is not just clicking it together... Also, make sure that whoever puts it down used and underlay...it is a thin sheet ...just as you would under carpet to stop any moisture and thirdly ... make sure that they run a glue line down each piece on the join, this will minimize movement. There are 3 different floorings that you can use but the old floor needs to be leave 3mm in a mt
Floating timber which is a timber veneer over a ply this product will mark and scratch like normal timber but it can be sanded and coated later the repair to nearly new again.

Floating laminate which has a photo image glued to a HDF ( high density fiber board ) with a clear wear layer over the top, this is to take all the wear and tear but if it does get damaged it can't be repaired unless you remove the board and replace with new.

There is also a new vinyl floating floor,
This is a lot more softer and can also handle water which will damage the other 2 products so if your coming in from out side say a pool area, is flooring will handle it.
