As others have said, it depends on your environment and view. If the house is located in a particularly hostile environment (e.g. west coast Tasmania, central Australian desert) or experiences wild swings between the seasons (e.g. Snowy Mountains) then windows are your friend. In temperate / sub tropical areas like Brisbane then verandahs are the way to go. Windows can have great thermal properties IF they're double glazed which has better insulation properties than say walls in a QLDer house with a timber stud frame sandwiched between weatherboards and VJs. It also depends on the orientation of the house.

Hmm, seems no one has seen them around. I have found them online at Trend Living at Chipping Norton in NSW, Aeros in Victoria and Stallion Product in WA. I didn't think they were that uncommon. Any feedback would be appreciated!!!!

Remove red shelves and build in a wall of fitted shelving on that left hand wall, extending right in along the side of the desk. I notice the filing cabinets are at either end of the desk - can they be moved to the right hand end so as not to be blocking the storage area you will have created. In fact once you have the extra shelves you may be able to get rid of one of the filing cabinets. Place the printer and extra equipment on the shelves where they cross the end of the desk, and you have all the rest of the wall for dedicated storage for books, files, rubbish bin, containers for EVERYTHING, appropriately labelled, this may help hubby to keep things tidier, eg a container for all the cords and connections, another for USBs, appropriately labeled, Lots of file boxes or other appropriate storage containers on the shelves. Install plenty of electrical sockets, or fit that power board UNDER the desk, out of the way. A charging station would be useful. Stack of fresh paper for the printer, bin for rubbish - having EASY access to EVERYTHING is the answer. And yes, hide all those cables! Wireless gadgets if possible! My desk has a half-depth shelf under it, in front of my knees, which has the printer and spare paper stacked on it. Works just fine, out of the way and accessible.

A suggestion. Since you have windows in the study with views, I would utilise those views. I would block up the small arch that is from lounge to study. Open up the large arch, and make a walkway. Put fridge in blocked up arch. Continue kitchen benchtop and cupboards around the entire study area on solid walls. On the window parts continue an open counter. You could have stools here to look at your views, and this could be used for working on a laptop with a wifi connection to a printer camouflaged in cupboards. Or just use it as a wonderful place to sit and directly take in your views. I would also reconfigure your lounge so you are facing the study area when seated. Photos attached for visual explanation.
