Before/After: Brave Bathroom Makeover

Renovation of a tired but functional bathroom (with laundry nook) in a inner Sydney warehouse loft, no storage, terrible lighting with green floor/accent and white wall tiles got a full makeover.

Being brave (under the excellent guidance of Kartrina Hill Design Group www.khdg.com.au) I choose black gloss penny round and to have random dots of silver penny rounds (penny rounds came from http://designtiles.com.au/ ). I found the penny rounds prices varied alot from shop shop and not all brands are the same thickness or even the same shape. The black gloss were some of the cheapest, with the silver being the most expensive. To create the random pattern I took out 3 or 4 (alternating) in each sheet of black penny rounds replacing them with silver - I had very sore fingers after that, but my labour created a real wow feature! The costs were low as I only needed a few sheets of the silver colour. Our brilliant tiler was able to make it look seemless. Charcoal grout used.

The previous tiles did not go all the way to ceiling and we copied that with the new tiles, so installed mirrors above the tile line to bounce light around and make the ceiling look higher.

A new exhaust fan and 2 bright bathroom led downlights installed to compensate for the dark tile (www.lightingtechnologies.com.au) . Frameless shower panel installed. New taps, showerhead and towel rails installed (all from www.highgrovebathrooms.com ).

Mirrored shaving cabinet was 2 x 1200mm long (from http://www.erenovation.com.au/ ) installed side by side to look like a custom job as it went the entire length of the wall, again this made room look bigger and brighter.

New narrow floating vanity was dusky grey colour with moulded glass basin ( http://www.highgrovebathrooms.com/ ) gave more storage and grey was a good change from the more standard white.

Planning and sourcing took me about 3 weeks. Execution; Tiling took 4 full days, Plumber a Day, Electrician half a day, Glazier 2 days, Cleaning half a day.
