I'd mostly be using upstairs for storage space - you have to build up pretty large dry food stores if you want to stay self sufficient on a homestead - but given where I'm looking at building a bunk-room for visitors unexpectedly trapped by heavy rain would probably be a consideration so I want to make sure I plan my plumbing (for an accompanying bathroom) according At this stage I've marked the stairs here on the first floor plan. The footprint of the storage room would be (I think) 3.2m x 2.8m and the staircase would eat into this. Edit: I also have the general impression most people see themselves having larger families than what I personally consider right for me, so I imagine future homeowners would probably be appreciative of being able to turn upstairs into a 'kids zone' with additional bedrooms,rumpus room etc

what are all the walls floors and roof built out of? are the front bedroom and rear living room additions to the original house? is there a step down to the living room and what are the thick sections of wall at the end of the bathroom and study built of?...where are the original and proposed external doors to the backyard? is there a garage and driveway or any good or bad views and where would you have a dining area?.... it's important to understand the existing structure before considering changes eg the dimensions are inconsistent (varying wall thicknesses?) and you have removed sections of wall between the kitchen and lounge but these walls may hold up the ceiling and roof...do you know which walls are load bearing?

Hello KSR 19, First question always: which way is north?....where is the sun? It affects lots of things: Be nice for ensuite to be a bit bigger and I assume some of the two bedrooms into one room is for a walk in robe so a larger ensuite can be incorporated into that. Do you need two entrances into study? Probably one by entry would be better and more private for the bathroom and bedroom. How many bedrooms in the whole house? I assume a proper laundry would be a good idea and a chute for grotty clothes a must. IF the sun is the garage side of the house then the doors to the narrow side garden -meals could go, the wall be halved into laundry and pantry with kitchen in front of that looking towards patio. Dining/kitchen wall to go if possible. Doors to patio carefully positioned so as the living room with its traffic lights for the movement around the home still has space to be a living room and not a major Red Spot intersection!!! If you leave the wall between living and kitchen across the house it will provide a place for furniture. Hope this is helpful: I can draw it if this is unfathomable!! Best of luck. Margot
