Need advice on changing the colour of brick

Need advice on the best way to change the colour of the brick in my house. I'm after some other than red brick which is far too old school- I want a more modern facade. I have done research that suggests paint is a no go so after advice on where to buy stains or tints. What colors....??? Has anyone done a stain or tint or brick before... Can I DIY???

Wow, Mel, fantastic. Extending the deck has hidden the brickwork too so it is not as obvious and changed the whole character of the front of the house. I love how it gives the house a real relaxed holiday vibe too, I can see lots of cool drinks being served after a day of hard work. Renovating never really ends so just go with the flow and enjoy as you go. Happy New Year to you too.
