Hi chittering5 we used the 25.5cm lights. Our island bench is fairly small at approx 1800x900mm. I actually purchased 3 (at much better price than currently listed) but felt it was too many for the space when I mocked up the (widest) diameter of the lights with paper cut-outs. Trying to decide if I can use the 3rd light in the bathroom or something without it looking lonely....

Now that this has been explained, always make sure to purchase bathroom lighting according to these standards to make sure that your bathroom is always safe. You should also have this principle applied when you purchase other electrical devices such as heated towel rails, or a guide to where you'd put sockets in your bath for razors and other devices. This may also fix the common misconception that LED lights are not rated for bathrooms. Typical LED lights have an IP rating of IP66 which is more than the needed IP rating standard that bathrooms should have. - Not to mention you'd be saving a whole lot from energy bills in the long run.

Looking at your lighting plan, it isn't not enough lights, it is where they are positioned. The three lights above island should be spaced directly above island for task lighting. Your plan has them across the kitchen, the same as other three in the middle of the kitchen. If you look at the photos that have been posted with pendant lights, they are all positioned over the island bench, not spread over ceiling. Hope your choice of lighting works well.

Personally I would go with a fan because in summer when the mozzies or the flies are out having a fan on is useful for comfort. A light will just draw mosquitos in. If you want a nice hanging feature you can always suspend an object D'Art in a corner out there to give the same impression. Or you can screen your alfresco area in and enjoy a pendant light. I have the same thing on my house a beautiful alfresco area that I've decided to screen in for several reasons, one being the insects. Nothing worse than being eaten alive during a dinner party and needing to move the party indoors as a result.
