Ok, don't like the dark cushion, don't like the TV in the bedroom. You could go for pendant lighting using the same 'material' as the mirror? If you went for larger beside lamps while you have that mirror there, they would be fighting each other. In the programs I watch, they say to have 'a hero in the room'. In this case the mirror is the hero I think. Also the extra throw cushion for the bed could match one on the chair, so it ties in (or don't have one at all on the bed). If you did need a TV what about having one installed on the wall to the right of the chair,(looking at the photo) and make sure it can swivel out, so when you aren't watching TV in bed it can be against the wall, out of the way. Then you can have a lovely (glass) ornament or two, or a bunch of flowers sitting on it along with your photos. I love how you have your bed dressed, spot on! (without the dark cushion) I absolutely adore the blue shades in the duvet cover and I would draw those out into the room. Love that you have opened up your windows in the lounge. Maybe a throw rug and some colourful (same colours as in the duvet cover on your bed) cushions on the lounge suite as nothing is really popping! There doesn't seem to be any colour except for the flowers and the photos. Colourful paintings on the wall would be lovely too. Maybe the potted plants could be in coloured (as in your duvet cover) pots instead of white. I know you weren't asking about the lounge and if you are happy with it, then that is all that matters. Dear Mary, a track on the ceiling with S-fold heading would look good in this room. It would be terrific as a sheer, but remember that at night people can see in when the light is on - during the day, it will be private. As KK1000 said, a blind in the reveal will make the area private when required, or have lining on a separate track. The fabric doesn't need to be plain, it can include design in the colours you already have in the furniture, rugs or artwork. There are fabulous coarsely woven sheers at the moment and a few samples follow: Most curtains at the moment are falling from the ceiling, as it makes the room seem larger and the S-fold looks good from the outside, rather than gathers - just look about in the meantime, you will see what I mean. Pelmets are making a come-back, but might look like an apology with your leather furniture, unless they are relatively straight and fit up to the cornice.

I'd ask the question from the opposite point of view . What will closing the lounge off achieve ? It may make it look dark , it may make it look pokey , you have Bed 5 the other side of the entry , and although that presumably won't be used much , I'd actually be more inclined to try and hide that door . If you are worried about a steady stream of people heading to the stairs or kitchen , disrupting the people in the lounge , then why would you put the lounge there in the first place ? Enjoy the space , or move the lounge would be my obvious observation .

Hi Kathryn, making an assumption here but if your wish is to make the room more cohesive, I’d try to pare it back. One way to begin is to, temporarily, remove everything except the essentials - cushions, art, knick knacks, books, small tables etc. Then list what large items you feel don’t ‘fit’ the feel you’re after. The following is a for instance example only: your lounge set and the red armchair are lovely and suit the house. The office chair is a great colour match and mixing modern and traditional can be great, but it takes up a lot of room making the room look a bit cramped. So, do you remove one of the chairs? Or find a smaller desk? Or could one of the other furniture pieces go? Or could the placement of the items be altered for better flow? Only you know what is essential, what feels good to you, what other spaces you have et al. Once you’ve got a plan, which will include where to place the television 😉, bring back the items you love and feel suit your style, group them to enhance the look you want to achieve (Houzz is full of ideas about displaying your treasures effectively), add some pretty time period lighting and you’re good to go. Long term, you might consider getting a framed wicker cover or similar to hide the modern day tech near your front door, if it bothers you. One last thing re the gas fire heater, and I’d at least think about it just on an economic and environmental basis, check out stones as an alternative to the wood fire replicants.
