My house, built in 2003, has purple feature walls in the dining room and 2 bedrooms and green feature walls in 1 bedroom and 2 living areas. That was the fashion then. Recently I decided it's time for an update as the feature walls seem to be absorbing all the light and making the house very dark. So far I've undercoated 2 of the feature walls and what a difference it makes! The rooms are much lighter and now I have to decide on whether to add a lighter colour as feature walls or paint them the same colour as the rest of the room.

Lindy, Why dont you do a computer image of the outside of your home like you can do with digital decorator and play with some schemes. You would instantly know if you like it or not!! Otherwise as Luke suggested, you need to decide if you want to contrast or blend?? I would certainly start off with a blend, as changing it to a deeper colour later would be far easier than trying to go back to a lighter colour if you decide you don't like it. Deep Ocean can look stunning with Jarrah but now that you have Monument I think you really need to stick to Windspray if your window frames are that colour otherwise I feel you will be introducing too many colours and you will spoil the elegant look of the home. A few people have asked for the colours I used on my house. I used the Resene colour range. *Weather boards - Ash *Battens - Triple Ash *Trims, window frames and vertical rails on stairs and deck- Alabaster *Top Hand rails and accents (pretty much anything that was red) - Half Nocturnal *Stair treads - Alabaster in centre, Ash on sides *Stringers on stairs - Ash Hope this helps :)

Think of introducing a contrast to the white - black being very contrasting, white not being a contrast and soft grey being somewhere in between (but possibly not quite enough, in which case you may need to go for darker shades of grey) . The analogy might be framing a picture or piece of art- If the canvas is really white, you wouldn't choose a white frame. Or putting on eye makeup- if you choose to put a colour on your lids and don't include eyeliner or mascara, your eyes will lack definition ! What colour is the roof ? Also ,have you chosen the white of the exterior yet because these two factors can help in your decision process.
