Yay or nay? Bidets
Comments (116)@Souzette Lovell, I know nothing about bidets but just commenting on your question about water being splashed on untiled areas of your bathroom. I constructed my bathroom entirely with villa board, and the only plaster is on the ceiling. I have also tiled the entire bathroom to the ceiling because it made sense to do this rather than be concerned about any water ingress anywhere as well as any damage from something like the hand held shattaff you mention and it means zero maintenence having to repaint from time to time. My suggestion is if it's not too late to use villaboard and not plaster, in fact I'm surprised all bathrooms aren't fitted out with villaboard but I don't think it's compulsory except for the shower cubicle. I did it so there would never be an issue with water damage as this material is impervious to water ingress. Otherwise if it's too late and your bathroom is complete, I would tile this wall or a section of the wall as it would make more sense to be able to wipe the tiles regularly in case of any unwanted splashes from regular use if there are children especially, as their aim isn't always perfect and it's hard to clean plaster ha-ha!!...See MoreCoffee pod machines — yay or nay?
Comments (31)I have an espresso machine and am definitely a coffee snob. Even have a coffee roaster. :-) There are no good coffee shops near where I live, so the only place to get a good cup of coffee near home is at my house. As I have arthritis, it is getting quite difficult, so (having gotten a free one when I got a new kitchen) I tried an automatic machine... Ended up on eBay. :-( Then I bought a pod machine. Admittedly, it was not Nespresso, it was from Aldi, but that too ended up on eBay. People keep telling me that Nespresso is better, and have had a drinkable cup at some shop I was offered one, but not willing to invest in one to try. I stayed at a friend's house who had a pod machine, which even had a "cappuccino" pod. It was shocking! She thought it was great! I forced myself to drink one cup, after which I told her that I no longer drank a lot of coffee and also told her that I ALWAYS went for a long walk every morning and went out in search of coffee :-) As it is getting more and more difficult for me to make a cup with my machine, I would consider something that would make it easier, but still not convinced....See MoreBathroom shower design fail
Comments (52)MB Design & Drafting, I have to contradict your comment about having only 1 floor waste, we have a large double shower with only 1 floor waste, ours is in the centre of our double shower, our tiles are black and by the time we get out of the shower the water on our shower floor is gone, I always clean the tiles and glass before leaving the shower, I leave the fan on while we dry and by the time we are dried our shower floor is almost dry, we have no trouble at all with only 1 floor waste.. Barbara, we have the same problem, which is not a problem at all, my husband likes his shower much hotter than me but we have our showers turned on to suit each other, we have a small seat at each end to sit on while we wash our hair and feet and each others backs....See MoreRetirement floor plan. Comments (70)Blue Gum floorboards how could it not look beautiful!! and yes wheelchair friendly although if we were in a wheelchair I guess we would have to move closer to town and transport and shops as this house was going to be in the country talking of moving... husband has caved and said we can move to the Bay of Islands whoop whoop! he still wants to go to France for 2 years but he said we could build or buy before we go so that changes the type of house now because we were building near a school and families this will be more a beach house that we can leave for the kids to enjoy and various friends who want it while away so I have swapped the master over to be away from the laundry garage door and hot water heat pump which is quite noisy and the guest rooms now have a Jack and Jill bathroom I haven't changed the footprints at all it's still the same size just changed the layout a little bit The bunk room would have a sliding door outside which means you could access that part of the house privately without coming through the front door or the bunk room could be a small kitchenette /come dining room / come lounge room (very small ) and rent it out as a 1 bedroom self contained apartment Once we live there full time ... will upload a photo in the next Post...See More- 10 years ago
