Who says you have to have the same colour inside and out. I have double hung windows that are different colours. Yes, there is a 'seam' where the two colours meet but it's only really noticeable when the windows are wide open and even then only pedants notice.

I completely agree with both Bigreader and Robandlyn. Paint the garage doors the same as the front door and it stops looking like two disparate buildings jammed together. The front needs a clever garden STAT!!! That pointless puddle of whateveritis against the house is completely the wrong scale. go with tall narrow trees underplanted with something interesting. Let's face it, that sloping "lawn" is never going to look like much more than a bit of ground you couldn't afford to pave. You need narrow verticals to mirror (and thus flatter) the proportions of the house. You could go with native Aussies, but frankly off the top of my head I can't think of anything quite the right shape, and shape is important here. I'd be doing Cupressus sempervirens (Italian cypress, and although "The Rocket" is a pretty good cultivar, I'd be using something as close to the species as you can find. Just, please, avoid Swane's Golden, because not only is it totally Nana's garden, it's just a horrible colour) as a strong vertical, preferably two trios and a single, or that single could be an olive tree to keep the vaguely Mediterranean flavour. Rip out the lawn, get a couple of nice impressive boulders and use them to stabilize the bank, and lay down a good pale gravel, possibly hoggin. The fine texture of this stuff is a good weed repellent. Underplant your trees with lavender, rosemary and rock roses, (or even real roses - this is one area where the ground cover roses come into their own) with accent notes from bunch grasses, the American perennial forbs (bidens, phlox, verbenas, asters, rudbeckias - you know the sort of thing) and some of the South African bulbs. Go a bit mad - this is a situation where mixed excess really works. Have a rough gravel path between your planting clumps and in a couple of years when it all takes off it will look quite spectacular, and the only maintenance you'll ever need to do is a bit of pruning every now and then. NOT (dear God, why do people DO that??!!) the grasses - when they get untidy just run a rake through them to take out the dry bits - but the bulbs might need the dead leaves removed when they're over, and some of the perennials should be cut back just before spring. Will all this cost money? Absolutely, but probably less than painting, and unlike a paint job will only get better with time!

With such a large house I think it would need some other darker colour along with white to help "ground" the look. Also, as mentioned above, pure white on an exterior looks very glarey - surfmist would be perfect. I would strongly suggest getting a colour consultant to help with such a large project - and get some mock-ups done with different colour ideas.

The back of the house you've nailed it -- all windows in the charcoal . Do the pergoda in a similar stain , and it's done . The front though -- you say the roof is Manor Red -- it looks like a fading brown to me ? Might be the photo , but I would go redder there -- it looks in that picture that it will need doing soon ? The one area I would concentrate on though is that gable ! I'd do all the upright boards and the surrounding boards in a really crisp white , and leave the infill in primrose or beige . Subtle but it will lift it . You then have the option of leaving the windows as they are , or going all black / charcoal / monument -- the latter would look more modern , but i don't think that would be the best look for the house -- I'd leave them as they are and embrace the period .
