Rough Edge on Tile and Haze
Comments (9)Hi Two's Company - Builder says in reference to your picture: "What you are showing is something that could potentially be done. However this is bringing in another work scope item (Hardwood) into your project. A transition piece would need to be made or special ordered (I would assume) and then sanded, stained and finished to match your existing floors. All while redoing floor tiles at the same time." Is this true that it's such a big job? Or is this a piece he can purchase? Also - if we decide to go with a white marble piece - can he follow your drawing for that? I would want to make SURE the marble can be laid flush with the tile and not stick up further. Would there be something on the edge of the tile, before the marble, to make sure there was a small edge? Or would the tile go right up until the marble? Thank you!...See MoreAdjusting for different floor heights
Comments (3)Hi David What you could do is pull up the carpet and screed the floor with ardit floor leveller to create a gentle and barely noticeable gradient over the doorway and into the room. This is done all the time and would simply be a matter of talking to your local carpet shop about undoing the carpet (assuming your timber installer isn't a carpet shop), laying the screed and relaying the doorways. You only need a carpet layer although it is usually done over two days to allow the floor leveller to dry. The other way is that flooring distributors supply mdf ramps that are designed for ezactly these situations and again, it is just matter of getting a carpet layer to pull up the doorway, install the ramp and relay the doorway carpet. This is a same day solution although as the ramps are only doorway deep it is slightly more noticeable. Cheers...See MoreShould I remove my kitchen cabinets?
Comments (70)Ok so after all the feedback I made some changes. After looking at it, I would like to make entry point from garage on the garage wall, so you still enter into pantry, but you dont have to walk through pantry to gain access to the house. I would also like to flip bathroom and bed 3 so bathroom is centred between rooms. Also not convinced I should have entry to lounge from kitchen, should I have kept it entering from the entry. My only issues now is, do you notice how the bathroom steps in? This is because the ensuite is a bit bigger. Will it look ok once built or do I take that 30cm from my ensuite/main room to level it up? If so do I take 15cm from ensuite and 15cm from main bedroom? Also I really wanted the compartment bathroom that oklouise suggested. But its not big enough. Any ideas? My current bathroom is 3100 x 2600....See MoreBathroom wall tiles to match a 1950s Terrazzo floor
Comments (16)I really like that floor. I hope you are able to keep it once the complexities of waterproofing are revealed. Really large tiles would not be era appropriate. And they were moving away from subway tiles by then. Perhaps 20-25cm square in running bond for that decade? Colour will be easier to pick when the green is gone. I think bright whites could be useful accents but were not really available back then, except whitewash. So depends on how true to the age you want to be or if you’d prefer to have your own blend of the best of two eras....See MoreNicole Al-rabiah
