ok hubby tucked in bed now. where was i? this is gonna sound crazy, but i read this once and adored, just have not gotten enough jeans yet. a woven jeans rug! but not the old timey wrap in a circle type. This is like those pot holders we used to make on a loom...you know you go over and under, I can only find the pic on pinterest, and they won't let me download. I also like recycled leather like belts, maybe you could them as an edging. I would make my rug square I think. i am also constantly trying to come up with ideas for old ties. You get them cheap enough and they can be so cool. but you have to mix them with something?

Hi Nick The vinyl is a no go unfortunately as it needs a nice flat surface. Otherwise you will soon see the underlying pattern through. You have a couple of options though with the slate as others have suggested. Firstly I would check out the adhesion of the slate to the floor ie check if there are any loose pieces. Tap on the floor lightly with your knuckles over the whole floor or VERY lightly with a hammer or other metal object. You will soon hear hollow areas. If there is a lot hollow, I would break out the jack hammer and pop it all off. It's a bit of a job, but you can strip a large area in a day easily then grab a floor grinder to remove the adhesive. Again another day and messy but then you have a fresh start, or you can get a floor stripping company in to do it with little fuss. Options then become standard ie vinyl, other tiles or epoxy coatings. If you want to go over the existing floor, you can have a flooring specialist out that does self leveling epoxys or flowcrete to either create a marble style or polished concrete finish, a clear mirror level finish in which the slate looks like a pattern within the mirror floor or create a level surface from which you can then add your vinyl etc. Cathy are thinking of Laminam? It comes in a 3m x 1m sheet which I have seen used on floors but you can also get the 1m x 1m for floors and it is 3mm thick plus the backing. Cheers

Hi, what a cute little nook in your home. Before you select a rug, mirror, and any other additional items or accessories for this room, be sure to measure the space up, so that each item you choose is proportionate to this space - this is particularly important in small spaces. A round rug is going to be the best option here, to give you softness under foot, without it dominating the little space. Armadillo & Co have some lovely Wool Blend round rugs in their Perennial Collection. I would remove the wine rack and replace it with a bar cart, sized to suit (not too large) and you could then hang a wall mirror above the bar cart - again, the wall mirror should be sized to suit the bar cart below, and a round wall mirror will provide continuity with the round floor below. You could even then consider wall sconces beside the mirror and remove the table lamp on the top of your bureau all together. I would replace it with a piece of photographic art directly above the bureau, and add a few simple accessories to style the top of the bureau - a short vase, small pile of books and some decor items. Have your footstool re-upholstered in a more uplifting, patterned fabric, and select a scatter cushion for your armchair to co-ordinate with the fabric on the footstool. Add a cozy throw to your armchair, so you have everything you need for a cool night in, at your fingertips. Enjoy your gorgeous new space.

PS, we were out walking and I sent my daughter home for the car and stood next too it so I wouldn't lose it, it is so heavy and we were all sick with the flu, but has cleaned up beautifully and Lucy is 2 and loves it, the little boy's whose it was (originally his sister who was then 13) was a bit sad but mum said it was time it found a new home and how the new little girl would enjoy it, he came out and had a chat with me whilst I was holding my ground, I popped a thankyou card and a target voucher in his letter box a few days later, I just hope he got it
