Comments (48)I'd like to help you with an artwork for the wall if you are open to it. I do commission works and exhibit in galleries - It seems artists have done a good job at implying art is wildly expensive - my aim is to make art inclusive, authentic and affordable. You can even pick the price of a commissioned artwork and we can work together to create something right for the space and budget. If you're keen, I'm happy to have a chat. You can contact me via my website www.janamcleod.com :) An artwork can transform a space and lend to it an atmosphere. It is uniquely yours and can connect you to a time, place, thought or feeling. In any room an artwork can add a sense of wonderment......See MoreNeed decor ideas for family room
Comments (68)A suggestion that the professionals use and makes it SO much easier choosing colours - and then the perfect shade of that colour. Get a paint swatch of the Hog's Bristle - or paint a little sample card from leftover paint. Bring home 5 or 6 samples shades of navy from the paintshop to get the the closest shade/tone of navy to your couch. Armed with those - and a sample of your bench colour - hit the shops with confidence! You will see easily which yellow, or which Marsala or which 'whatever-colour-you-choose' looks great. There are many shades that might look like they work in the store, but when you get them home will be NQR,,,,you know, not quite right....and you still may not be thrilled with your room. It's a simple and almost foolproof way of choosing colour and has worked for me throughout many renovations.Couldn't do it without those little bits of colour! Have fun......See MoreHelp??
Comments (127)You have a mixed colour palette & an eclectic range of furniture which means that you will end up with a very interesting room indeed. First suggestion: reposition rug so that all of the sofa sits on it equidistantly. At the moment your main colours are: chocolate; white; tan and grey from your sofa, entertainment unit, dining table, kitchen etc. These colours always look great together particularly if they are teamed up with black. So I think if you choose the right artwork with these colours; add copper items to top of your tables and choose cushions in these tones the whole room will come together. You will successfully mix old and new & it won’t be too bold for your taste. Note: artwork should be purchased first & be landscape in orientation. Could your existing artwork hang in the kitchen or hallway as it would be seen from the main room? To give you an idea of what I mean see pic below. Not suggesting that these items are what you would personally choose but focus on the colours and how everything is tied together. PS you could put some of your ornaments on the coffee table....See MoreAdvise in Living Room Styling
Comments (28)I love mirrors - they bounce light around and depending upon what they're reflecting they're great to use for feng shui - if you're really worried about using mirrors - ensure that they reflect back something terrific (say such as green plants outside). You need to review how you use plants - the ones that youve got are low - you need something that is eye height and on your furniture - to create different levels of greenery - so think about taller indoor palms, and when you get your TV wall mounted, you could use the TV unit for storage and put a plant(s) on top of it to give you different levels. If you can replace the map for other keepsakes/accessories from Mongolia I think you'd be better off. Soft fluffy "hairy/furry" cushions will soften your lounge and refer back to traditional heritage. You could replace the map with a Mongolian style rug or traditional artwork. Utilize a strong horse statue or vase, hanging a piece of traditional costume (similar to the way Kimonos are hung) or a piece of reproduction artwork - just pick things that you love on your coffee table and other walls. You could also do shadow box frames traditional jewellery/horse stirrups/bridles for something eye catching (you can source these online or if you've got family still in Mongolia it's well worth asking them to check out markets/antique shops). The map doesn't really do your home or your background justice - Mongolia has such a rich history and culture to pick from - have some fun with it. I think as soon as you remove the vertical blinds and replace them with curtains you'll instantly feel better - (hang them as close to the ceiling as possible - it'll make your room feel taller and the curtains themselves will bring a feeling of soft comfort) and with changing the coffee table you'll be on the right track....See Moreducks43
