Hi, I need to replace the front of my kitchen cupboards as the wrap product has warped and cracked (after warranty period) I don't want to change the bench top or appliances but plan to update the splashback with glass - any ideas other than white?
It depends on so many factors ie how much light does the room get, what colour is the floor, what abuts this area and what colours are in there. I notice Laminex have an ad out at the moment pushing unusual colour combinations for kitchens which makes a nice change. My own kitchen is in need of replacement and I'm probably going to have to go white due to lack of light in that area. And stupid as it may sound, I can't get past resale and longevity. Neutral kitchens last the distance and unless you are staying there for another 20 years you have to consider this, Maybe a silvery grey would work. Isn't grey supposed to be super fashionable right now?
Thanks - I take your points about light, and resale, I was think a greyish may just meet my need to not do white and also avoid getting stuck in a time trap - cheers
Without knowing the colours in your kitchen and surrounding rooms - I would suggest neutral with some added colour - then if you want to revamp later you can change the coloured parts of the kitchen without having to overhaul the lot. Things like feature fronts on islands, or some cupboards a complimentary colour while others white - check online for examples - it's becoming popular. Also cafe and restaurant cabinetry can provide inspiration on colour compatibility for your kitchen
Please ladies, enjoy your kitchens - you have to live with them all day every day. Unless you are thinking of selling in the really short term then have what you love - the next person will probably replace it all anyway, especially if you plan on being in your home for even 10 years. Kitchens are changing so much with all the new technology and products coming on the market.
Mcctrish more photos of your kitchen would be helpful, I really can't comment too much with the photo you have provided, but I have just totally redone my kitchen (all for me) and I intended having a glass splashback but when the time came, I found it was just too plain and would do nothing for my kitchen. I think with the glass, you need to have a stunning feature colour to make it effective. That was my problem, there was no colour I could have to make it 'sing'. Look at photos on Houzz and you will see that glass splashbacks are the feature of kitchens. Start with the splashback before you decide anything else.
Also, if you are just replacing your doors, are there any other fixed panels in the room that will be replaced also or will it be necessary for them to stay, which will then affect what you choose.
I have just completed a kitchen painted 1/4 masala, with white and stainless benchtops. I love it and have many positive comments. But may depend on how light and roomy kitchen is. Also have seen one in 1/2 stack Resene colour which looks pale grey with plain white benchtops. Beautiful and restfull looking.
