That's a very neat finish on your windows, Melodie, but we have too many windows to consider changing the frames. Karen, painting the frames is not realistic for us, but thanks for the tip about Scyon Linea. I'd not heard of it before but it looks very interesting. Sharon, I'm fairly keen on some external window shading because we live in Brisbane and it makes a big difference to the heat in those areas. I like your idea of a solid grey awning, though, and agree that it might lift the '80s image into something more modern.

Belinda, with you on cream or beige, it's everywhere. To make your white windows, roof and verandah (and those cute awnings on upper windows, they really help balance the proportions and give your facade some punch) how about a deep, dark grey (deeper than your splashback) - or even charcoal or black stain? Timeless, crisp and classic. There are now light reflecting paints that mean you can go deep and dark and it won't warp the boards. Cover (or at least paint out) the ugly old meters so they disappear. Then pick out some mid greys (a palette of two or three for interest) to paint the veranda posts, deck and steps. Since you don't have a paintable front door, you can add your pops of colour with plant pots, potted flowers or a couple of beaut old chairs (rockers?) to sit on that lovely front porch.

It looks amazing White, Bricks, timber with a touch of black, such simplicity, just beautifully done with respect to the history of the house. I think the disco ball is over the dining table?

100% agree with Dr Retro -- I'd go slightly further too . The house was designed to have those fake 'Tudor' beams -- embrace them . The roof is fading , and the green is dated -- that would be the place to go Surfmist or slightly greyer . White walls , charcoal tudor timber , do that back pergoda posts and beams in charcoal , the fences in charcoal EXCEPT the existing side fence/gate that is white . The upstairs veranda and posts may be brown ( hard to tell on the computer ) -- change to charcoal . Probably all it needs , unless you want a bit of stand-out ( yes , that's me ) -- it looks like the front door is varnished , and 4 glass panels ? If its okay , leave as is , or stain a bit darker . But if it needs work -- paint it bright red , orange or sunshine yellow , AND do the gutters to match . White , grey , charcoal , red tinges to the pathways , and a splash of colour .
