i'd like some feedback on the two windows, as I am currently looking at the same thing without windows. Why r they there given the expanse of glass on other wall. My mum had two narrow vertical windows either side and as they were un curtained they look like black rectangles at night which I found spooky. They didn't let in much light because of trees outside, but I guess if u had a skyline view say they may be useful. They also compromised positioning of artwork.

It is difficult to give suggestions as we cannot see the space you have. However, I like the idea of a pop-up flat screen. This would mean that the TV doesn't become the feature in the room. Alternately - You could have a wall unit built where the TV is hidden behind doors. If you have the room, have matching cabinetry on either side of the fire-place.

Hi there Mel, with all the males in your house you can't hide the TV, we had a similar problem with positioning lounges and didn't want to replace our furniture. Our living, dining kitchen etc all have water views via big windows and sliding doors which really gives you great views while reducing wall space. We placed our sectional with enough space to walk behind it (we have full length timber venetians) in front of the 1st lounge window facing into the room. TV is on the end brick wall, we then have a couple of separate chairs opposite that can be moved if needed. I would agree that the best position for your sectional lounge could be with the back of the lounge towards the kitchen with the other section running along the wall. Keeping in mind the Males in your family (1) mount the TV in the same space on the small flat wall so that it can pivot, just thinking that the pool is right there, the boys could then have access to watching TV from the pool. (2) Put a low bench with storage in front of the window opposite the pool with the TV on this (they could still have access to watch from the pool.) not sure what window treatment you have in mind, you mentioned louvers which are great for air flow. Possible other is white internal shutters. A sofa table behind the lounge would add useful interest to the rear of the sofa. I agree with Domu & House Matters ideas. It is always challenging when you have three different focal points in the same room - in your case it is the fireplace, the deck/view and the TV. I would redesign the cabinetwork either side of the fireplace to be more integrated with the fireplace, and put the TV at 45 degrees (possibly with a wall bracket) into the corner between the fireplace and the window adjacent to the french doors. You need to have the top of the TV below the sill of the little window adjacent to the fireplace. By using the mantle piece as a continuous element will make this piece of cabinetwork seem neater, and not make the TV such a strong feature. I would re-orientate the couches so there is one with its back to the current TV position, facing towards the view, and one opposite the fireplace with the back facing the dining room. Also consider the access points to the room, and if the french doors would be better placed closer to the desk, so that traffic is not going through the middle of the room, so that you can have a longer couch opposite the fireplace. By re-orientating the room like this means that the focal points - the view, the TV and the fireplace are in the same direction, and not opposite and competing against each other. Your designer has gone to the trouble of "furnishing" the room to check the arrangement and flow, so I am surprised that they didn't pick this up. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls
