Facelift for an 'old girl' - exterior ideas for our Queenslander Renovation
Comments (10)Hello Down Under! I love your house. Beautiful and I agree with keeping the color. Really nice. How about replacing the metal staircase with a nice raised deck to fill in that space and give a place to sit and put plants. Then turn the stairs toward the street to make them more inviting. Wooden stairs. As for landscaping after that, well, how about some of those fabulous English borders with lots of perennials? Replace metal awning with wood? Or fabric? Also, if I were you, I would keep the fence. It is ugly but it has great value --especially if you have a dog. How about planting English ivy all along the fence. We have it in our yard growing on a large rock and by the second year it was taking over. This can cover your fence completely and make it look, well, English. It will even grow up the cinder block wall--if you can handle that much ivy. There are some pretty green and white ivy varieties that would look great with your house color. I have another one here that is pale green and white. Not a fast grower but very pretty. Anyway, great house. All the best!...See MoreNeed help for my exterior paint colour and exterior design
Comments (14)Hi, I like the overall concept of the darkish grey, it suits the home. I am a colour consultant and have been working with the Dulux range for 17 years and you are on the right track with the Guild Grey. The Dulux Signature will give you a dark blue house. Another option if Simone Weil which is just a bit lighter than the Guild Grey, if you find that one too dark. Sample pots and A4 brush outs onto white cardboard are the best way to decide, because computer programs give an overall impression of the "look" but are not accurate with colour choices, you can't beat the human eye. All the best, it's going to look great....See MoreNeed advice on exterior colours for a Queenslander
Comments (13)From your photos it looks like you are in an urban environment. The location of a home should be considered when choosing an exterior scheme so that it works with the environment rather than against it. However, as your home is in an urban environment, you don't need to worry about that. Instead, I would consider ensuring the indoor-outdoor flow (of colour) as a link to follow. Not knowing what your interior colour scheme is, look at your lighter colours and consider if they or variants of that colour will work on the outside of your home. The tall white fence you are having installed should be carried up to the house somehow, but this does not necessarily need to be the main colour. If you would like to give me a call, I would be very happy to talk this through with you....See MoreQueenslander - exterior painting aluminium windows
Comments (0)I have a highset queenslander with timber cladding, and aluminium windows and doors. We are going to paint the cladding a light grey and have white balustrades on the wraparound deck. My question is, what do I do about the buff coloured window and door frames? Do I spray them the same grey as the cladding or white? There is no framing trim around them. The front double doors have been painted deluxe domino....See Morebrrmmm
