Hey people I'm in the same page but I did a bit of research and I discovered this: Sand down with 120 grit sand paper first then wipe with a damp cloth Use Taubmans 3in1 sealer primer and undercoat Then use 2 coats of water base gloss or semi gloss Wait 2-3hours per coat

We went with Monument and I am delighted. I was worried about it making the house hotter, but not at all as we added some extra insulation while the roof was lifted. We look over our roof to Mt Dandenong and it really feels like we are floating above the rooftops now (previously had a lighter color). I have also noticed there is far less glare being darker. Pic below is not my best shots ... but you get the idea. Forgot to add we also have a flat cliplock roof and used a combination of Monument and Dune on the house.

I've coated many decks and the best advise I've been given is "leave it natural". Most timbers go grey after a few months and don't look too bad. If you want a bi-annual maintenance job the other bit of good advise I've had directly from the manufacturer is put down four coats minimum. The third and fourth coats won't use so much oil because they don't soak in. A very light sand between coats keeping in the direction of the grain is a good idea to retain a finish without wood grain or dust spoiling the final appearance. Two coats, no matter which brand or type of oil will last about a year in our sun.

Hi everyone! I'm looking to paint over oil-based with water-based paint (oil based has yellowed and cracked at joins around windows) + like the idea of quicker drying time and less smell. I'm getting conflicting advice when searching online, so thought I'd ask for advice from people who've had real-life experience. Is there a primer that I can use over oil-based paint WITHOUT needing to sand it all back? Or is sanding a major part of the process? And what are the recommended primers to use for this kind of job? Trying to avoid products with a super strong smell as I have young kids, a dog and hugely asthmatic husband. Thanks in advance!
