@ Gioenne Rapisarda...I for one do not recall seeing that...article on Arts and Crafrs inspired homes but would also really like to read it and maybe discuss...since my whole house is also from that era and, also, in its entireity, all local timbers, hand hewn, hand nailed etc, the craftsmanship is amazing. Four were built in the same district. In the 80s I met the then elderly electrician who installed the old wiring...and asked him why only 2 power points....this was all they needed back then. Since I purchased my house 30 years ago all I've done is repair and clean and maintain with the addition of a few 'old-looking' mod cons for expediency...otherwise it is still all original. Its a lot of work now many years down thr track. Enjoy your old lovingly built houses, you who have them, they don't make them like this anymore and I bet the newer ones will be gone before yours or mine.

Great advice chook, thanks so much. I'm thinking warm creamy shades to go with the dark wood furniture, but add texture like faux fur, satin, velvet, crisp cotton etc etc. Deep plush carpet. Generally luxe it up to the max. And definitely those bedside lamps of a lady holding a ball. The window is yet to go in, so I will make sure it's high enough to not overlap with the headboard. Good point how2girl, thanks. And yes, I toyed with the idea of a non-opening window for about a nanosecond, then summer hit here in Brisbane! Luckily there's a French door out to the deck in another wall, so we should get a good breeze going.

Agree with everyone who said that art should speak to them and not be purchased simply to match existing décor. I am a bit of an art hoarder. I have so many pieces of art that I buy simply because I love them or they really do speak to me! I do not have enough walls to hang all my art, so I simply recycle them. I move them around or replace one with another over and over again. When I purchase art for clients I do so in various ways. Art auctions, galleries, online, commissions etc. it really depends on what the client's budget is, how far I can push the client's boundaries but still stay within the parameters of what they like, and most importantly, how the art makes the client feel! I never buy art for a client and just install it without their imput because what speaks to me may not speak to them! I really like your pieces TJG creative! I happen to love photography however, most clients ( at least the majority of the ones I have worked for) seem to be glued to the idea of paintings. every now and then I manage to convince a client to include black and white photography in their home and I do this by bringing my own pieces in, showing them how wonderful they can be in their space and they are usually keen then to purchase some of their own. I try to steer away from art prints if possible because in my opinion, something original can always be found to suit anyone's taste and budget. By buying original artworks, we are supporting our local art communities and encouraging new and emerging artists to continue pursuing their dreams. Hi Carol , I hate the artwork but wonder if the colouring is way too little for the space haha ? Everything in your place is grey , beige , off-grey , off-beige , off-blue , and charcoal . So to add some excitement you get some art in grey , beige , off-grey , off-beige , off-blue and charcoal ! Three months ago I bought an original abstract picture about 1.2metres square -- a yacht under sail in heavy seas . Except it was all in brightish colours , the texture is literally knifed on . But straight away , your eyes are drawn to it , and you know exactly what it is . We know sails aren't really orange and yellow and apricot and butter -- but it portrays the fury ! The sails are actually heavy paper , screwed up , flattened , painted and glued to the canvas -- it is 3 dimensional ! I'm actually not a sailing person , but at $800 I grabbed it , and glad I did . It may not be your choice , but imagine just from my description , what something like that would add to your place . A large flower or fruitbowl if you want to be safe , a 'quality' landscape , or something that is a talking point if you are as mad as me . . . . . . . . . . and you can change it in 6 months or 6 years .
