I like the look of granite but lots of people say it stains easily and is high maintenance. What does someone with granite benchtops actually say from experience please?!
I had granite in my last house and loved it. Does not stain and very easy to wipe over. Maybe you are thinking of marble, which I have now and will not have in my next house. You have to be very careful with marble, but I found granite just beautiful and nothing affects it.
I have had Granite twice it is great but definately depends on what colour you choose as to wether it shows up marks, Firstly I had a light stone colour if it stained with say beetroot I would use Gumption on it ...very easy to remove. I always use Windex on the benches, especially as I now have a dark brown bench, which is a bit of a nightmare, I cant use anything but Windex, as anything else leaves a smeary residue, which really stands out. If you lean or put your hand on the surface it leaves a mark, obviously it doesnt show stains like the lighter colours but I dont think I would use Gumption on the darker colours.
All in all, if I chose again I would go light colours everytime, much less work.
Hi Joaney & Lainy I also use only windex on all my bench tops. The granite I had before was a white with a few burgundy streaks and gorgeous highlights through it. Can't remember the name, might have been River White but not sure and I found nothing stained it at all. The marble in my bathrooms I have now look very expensive and impressive but I know every single mark on them even though a visitor mightn't pick them out. In my kitchen I now have Caeser stone and if you want a virtually indestructible bench top this would be it. I have blackbutt timber floors and as they have a lot of color, I chose all white in the kitchen with just a tiny fleck. I just love granite because of the beautiful grains you get running through it.
