Oh this project grows. I’m thinking the kitchen/laundry access is probably worthwhile (light, access, etc). I’m liking the more contemporary layouts, compared to the u version that I liked at an earlier date. Siriuskey your comments about that version being too wide were important. (I eventually remembered design issues with my mum’s last kitchen which was a u and too wide and while it felt spacious, it was a bit ‘not quite right’). oklouises’ wed 5.26pm (2nd option) is probably my preferred option at this stage. I think that would be functional and satisfies my wish list pretty well. Layout and furnishing the greater space is still on the go. I must say, I’ve found everyone’s input with this project so creative and helpful.

Find your basin first, and then calculate the height based on the height of the people in your house. (excluding the kids, they will grow). Rule of thumb is convenience of use and ability to look in the mirror without tiptoeing or bending down. Top of basin is usually 90cm (approx) for a above bench vanity, the table needs to be lowered. for a flush mount / undermount, then the bench will be at 90cm. My daughter is 150cm now, and 90cm benchtop works ok for her.

Ooh. iI ike the idea of using the green in the niche - would help tie in and integtrate the facing (feature) wall. We're going to stick with a wall faced toilet, but will build out a false wall to the current edge of the bath so that we have an invisible cistern as well as create a void for the niche above. And think you are also right about the continuous bulkhead too. Thank you!

even if the tiles lined up exactly with the top of the cabinet if the cabinet sticks out from the wall (as apposed to being recessed inside the wall) the top of the cabinet will look higher when viewed from your lower viewpoint.....if you like the cabinet keep the taller cabinet and the difference in height will add interest to the look of the room but you may also find that the top of the windows and doors are not exactly the same (allowing for architraves and thickness of frames) so you could tile to a line below the lowest door or window height so that the tiles are the same height all around the room and the other variations will add interest
