@dkin0577, If the dark wallpaper works for you then go for it but the picture you have provided is a much larger area!!! We're all here to help with your ideas but ultimately it has to work for you. I love your secretaire and only wish I had such a lovely piece of furniture with sentimental value. Unfortunately, my parents never had the money, only buying what would work. Don't let anyone talk you into "outing" it but I do agree with Joshua to remove the lamp and photo, let this piece of furniture shine!!! Perhaps a wall light over the secretaire would look stunning. Most important thing from my point of view, is that the area looks tiny, so don't fall into the trap of over filling it, as that alone will detract from the very piece of furniture you are trying to highlight. Could be too that you could highlight this secretaire in some other part of the home and perhaps put a hall stand with a mirror in that area instead but on the other wall ?? Good luck again. 1.Floor to ceiling Fabric wall hanging - the width of the table. Fixed from cornice to skirting board ... use clear pushpins work just fine!! Choose something neutral, in black and white ... or any colour/s and designs that you love ... selection is endless .. and affordable enough to change every now and then. 2. Make sure to sew up two cushions for your lounge suite to compliment the wall hanging. 3. Is the table white? Find a chunky rectangular or square mirror in the same colour as your table ... and fit above the table. Ideally. the same width of table ... making the entire room seem larger! 4. On tabletop ... Lamp for a nice glow .. some coloured mid-century style low-line glass ornament/s for the shine .... and your bowl. 5. On the bottom shelf of your table ... two or three folded one colour minky rugs - or similar - to use when the days/nights are not quite cold enough to turn on the heater.

Thanks all for your advice ☺️ Much appreciated! We are still debating whether to keep or remove the shelf unit. The idea of having a small shelf unit with a small pot plant on top (hiding the router as the back of it!🤭) sounds nice as well. If we were to keep a small shelf unit there, as recommended I'd find the one with table height and narrow in depth. As for the colour/material of the side table if we decided to have one, what would you recommend? We have white walls and dark grey carpet. Most pieces of furniture are light beige/white/black, and the dining table (near the wall which is the topic of discussion) has a glass top. I am wondering if something like a tray stand or a narrow (in depth) hall table will suit there. Also as for the colour, while white will brend in with the background wall, black/dark grey aligns with the colour of the carpet - but it may be overpowering.. Would love to hear your thoughts ☺️ And it does seem to be difficult to find a piece of shelf unit for this particular wall and @Jennier, it's amazing that you can build your own piece of furniture! I'd ask the question from the opposite point of view . What will closing the lounge off achieve ? It may make it look dark , it may make it look pokey , you have Bed 5 the other side of the entry , and although that presumably won't be used much , I'd actually be more inclined to try and hide that door . If you are worried about a steady stream of people heading to the stairs or kitchen , disrupting the people in the lounge , then why would you put the lounge there in the first place ? Enjoy the space , or move the lounge would be my obvious observation .
