Help needed with a kitchen please :/ TIA

Working on a kitchen with a few ideas brewing any help appreciated though :)

1) solid cabinet full length wall along far side (where stove is now) that includes fridge, bins, stove, pantry, corner hidden breakfast bar, etc
2) cabinetry just bench height to run along the side where dishwasher is and have a new sink, Cook top, dishwasher and another higher timber layer to create a bar where the current serving 'gap' is
3) bamboo timber flooring
4) new light???
5) knock out (pending building inspection re: support walls) the door frame so the bar wraps around further
6) shallow matching cabinet between windows for cleaning goods like brooms
7) remove the 'thatch' from windows
8) decide colours, light, bench tops, sink etc, etc

What would you do Houzzers? All thoughts welcome

Can't see the floor plan, but what would happen if you filled in the existing door and knocked the pass-thru area into a new door entry. Just thinking that would give you two full size walls to work with as it all sounds a bit cramped the way you're describing it. Also the window light would spill into the back room (dining?). What is that floor? Stone? Looks nice, I'd keep it.

Unfortunately we cant change the plumbing which runs through that pass through area (half wall) - so the door pretty much has to stay there .... otherwise we'd love that idea - the more storage the better I say! :) It's definitely a cramped room - funny for how much use it gets .....

Yes the dining room comes off the kitchen - it has the exact same window in it as well so does get some light through - the surrounding gardens do block a bit however. The floor is Stone I quite like it but Hubby wants it to be wooden to flow with the rest of the house - at this stage just the bedrooms will be carpet, the bathroom tiled and everything else Bamboo Floorboards. Thanks so much though :)

i would fill in the space above the dishwasher with cabinets, to balance the look. i would even consider swapping out that rangehood for a slide out built in one, and make that entire wall cabinetry around the window. As you would lose all your top cupboards if you remove the wall in between, you will most likely need additional storage. also, i think that building it all in, will actually streamline the look, as the rangehood does look a bit squashed in between the fridge and the window. i like isellev's idea of taking out the wall, but bookending with storage pillars. Very functional, and would look great i believe. you could even plan them so they can have some storage on both sides, so then they look nice from the living side, as well as being functional. good luck.

Hi iggs85 as it is an older kitchen I would not spend a huge amount of money on a revamp. It is definitely possible to paint laminate but good preparation is vital to ensure the paint 'sticks'. However a quality painter is going to charge you about the same as your resurfacing quote. Using either a painter or a resurfacing company does let you choose any colour though. The biggest disadvantage of the current benchtop is the bullnose which is very dated. From your photo, the colour and pattern look OK but you could get a stone 'overlay' put on it. They square off the bullnose so it looks more contemporary. An acrylic feature panel on the return is another alternative to vinyl planks. It looks like glass, comes in a good range of colours and is relatively inexpensive compared to glass. See http://zenolite.com/range as an example. You can buy acrylic sheets from Bunnings. You could also use pressed metal panels as a feature eg. http://www.wunderlite.com.au/catalogue/details/1/79/pressed-metal-crystal?start=25 Add some new handles on doors and drawers too.

If moving plumbing, etc is too much for your budget, why don't you leave existing kitchen where it is, open up the wall to the hallway and that bedroom that faces into the pool area. Close off a wall near the entrance/formal living room to replace the bedroom. Advantages are a) not moving expensive kitchen wiring, plumbing etc. Kitchen window still looks out into entrance to see comings and goings AND back to pool for informal living (maybe casual dining at an island seating area, casual sitting for pool). b) the existing dining, living room is a separate space (great when your kids are older to have two living options for noise isolation - adults in one, kids in the other). Both sets of rooms open off the entrance way, and that new bedroom can be the one you use as home office or guest (leaving other bedrooms for family).

Looks lovely and I'm so glad you're happy with it (and love your little styling touches!) We're about to start building so no pics yet but we're supposed to be deciding already - bit soon for me to get my head around it when I can't actually see it. I was happy to go with a glass splashback but as that can look green because of the glass it's become a bit more complicated! I'll make a decision one day...
