Comments (78)JudyG – Happy Birthday!! Tras – I had that exact issue with where to transition colors, because my house is open concept. The kitchen & dinette are a pale teal .. but they’re open to the great room & foyer, which are peach. I paid the color expert at the paint store for a consultation, and we talked about how far towards the blue I really wanted, I could go in the kitchen/dinette .. leaving a medium green ceramic backsplash, and where to transition colors. We also talked about light & warm colors to replace the dark colors in the main bathroom & finished basement. It was worth the $125, and I didn’t have to wade thru 100 conflicting comments on Houzz! Darzy – I so agree with you, about the scope of fixes some posters recommend. If I asked how well a fabric I was considering for the couch went with other furniture already in that room, I wouldn’t appreciate people telling me to paint the walls, change the windows, replace the flooring, and change the stone on the fireplace! Another subject for us OLLDs to chat about – Consumer Reports magazine/website – are they really unbiased & even handed? Do they have a bias against high-end manufacturers or products?...See MoreYay or Nay? Open-air bathrooms
Comments (25)The bath tub looks uncomfortable! One would need to be short in stature to have a relaxing soak in a tub shaped like that. Looks nice, but looks don't do it for me. Pity...the bathroom ambience is spectacular! Don't think the designers of these half- egg-shaped tubs and others like them gave much thought to practicality. I'm always glad of my big old plunge tub from years ago, looks lovely newly resurfaced....plenty of room to stretch out, nice wide edges to sit on if needs be, 1/2inch thick enamelled cast iron that keeps the water warm, wide ledge at the rear for easy-to-reach pamper products.... Think I'd rather have a larger version of the lovely vanity basin you've had installed as a bathtub rather than your half egg shaped one. Nevertheless, hope your new bathroom with a view brings you many relaxing hours....See MoreHelp! What Do I Buy My Mum?
Comments (10)From the photos it looks like your Mum already has many lovely pieces. Perhaps you could have a girls' day shopping and choose something together which would have special meaning to her. Or else go for something different and treat her to a day of pampering at a beauty clinic - massage, manicure, pedicure, facial - the list goes on. Olivia, I'm sure she will love whatever you do....See MoreAccent chairs fabric colour dilemma
Comments (26)Hi again everyone and thanks again for all your suggestions re my chairs. So to update....7 months later I finally have my chairs back (between the polisher and the upholsterer it took much longer than anticipated). I ended up choosing a textured blue velvet, not a navy but a mottled royal blue similar to my little painted bookshelf. Im glad I did as the frames turned out darker and much more orange tinted than I wanted so thankfully the blue fabric tones the orange down somewhat (the polisher was supposed to do a test patch first for us to see...but annoyingly didnt and just went ahead and finished them before we'd confirmed the timber colour was okay to proceed with) Bur overall Im pleased with the result as I didnt want to be TOO safe and thankfully the textured fabric does not look like a solid plain colour - I ended up ruling out any patterned fabric as although I did get some patterned fabric samples I felt they just didnt really work with the rest of the patterns or decor in this area, or do justice to the chairs, and I find the blue chairs with the blue cabinet create an interesting little colourful 'nook' (especially when teamed with my old persian rug) in an otherwise very neutral coloured, large airy space that compliments and brings together the splashes of blue and the similar coloured full-room sized persian rug in the opposite part of this open plan living/dining room. Also my vintage Liberty fabric cushions which I was adamant on using compliment the colour perfectly, so thats a win! But thanks again everyone for all the helpful comments...See MoreKirtley Walker-Halstead
