Combined with some greenery inside and out as suggested by chookchook2 , you can start to soften the 'boxy' look of the space which is now reinforced by the line shape and form of the couch you introduced in the updated image. If it is a breakout or meeting room could I suggest, budget permitting, some form of window treatment. Some simple and relatively cheap e-screens would add a degree of privacy, but more importantly remove potentially annoying distractions from outside; important if you are using the room both for work that requires concentration' .. or alternatively, impromptu meetings with others that may be held in the room. I do like the green, but the photo projects a rather drab uninteresting interior despite your efforts thus far.(imho). I think making a call to Modern feature walls should be on your call list. Something has to be done with that ceiling which I find not only distracting but is actively working against your attempts at creating a really inviting space that people will want to break into. I can a hint of a table off to the right in front of the window. The best breakout spaces I've used have the facility to informally and casually sit across a table with sufficient desk or table space to spread drawings, images and presentation ideas. .. It just doesn't work as well if you and a colleague(s) are forced to sit or stand along one side of a table with the yard providing tempting distractions when the focus should be on communication and collaboration. Mounting the TV and raising it would open the room up further and likely break up the 'box-iness' further. .. A bit beyond my field (Window Treatments) ... but you did ask. lol....See MoreArtwork suggestions
Comments (27)Jeffrey, you want to bring a more neutral palette into your accessories to complement the busy-ness of your carpet and the darkness of the sofa. Look for textured fabrics in neutral tones, such as hide, wool, linen - but make sure they tone in with the brown sofa. The two side lamps are out of balance where they are as they're swamping the media centre with their dominance! If you're looking for a suitable lamp (just one) to place next to the TV, then opt for a more elongated and slim-line one, with some height. I agree with allanaspree (above) that the lamps would be better suited on either side of the sofa, allowing for nicer ambience in the room. I'm not sure what's situated behind the two chairs, but you could try to swing the lounge room around by moving the media centre and TV to the wall currently occupied by the sofa. Place your sofa and mirror into that vacated spot, and put your side tables and lamps on either side of the sofa. The mirror will reflect the whole room in its entirety, and not just some random open doors behind your chairs! TV viewing will be easier for all with this plan. Moving the media centre will give you a few more options to dress the wall. Just be mindful that less is more on that wall, as it will be competing for attention with the AC. A striking piece of artwork on the RHS of the TV will draw the eyes away from the AC to the left and above. If you do opt to move the TV to this wall, I would not recommend placing any artwork above the television! Not only would it be too busy, but it would compete with the AC and the telly. An assymetrical approach to dressing your wall will give a more visual balance to it. The only other thing I'd recommend would be that you raise the curtains to ceiling height. At the moment, their lowered height is giving the AC prominence on that wall! You want to draw the eyes away from the unit. If your budget can stretch to it, I'd draw inspiration from the brass elements in your accessories, and replace the white curtain pole with a brass one. It's always about BALANCE! Do come back with your new and improved look so we can see how it's traveling! :D...See MoreSuggestions for furnishing from scratch
Comments (18)Hi Rema, if yellow is you favourite colour then use that as the base for other decisions. Those chairs will look stylish with a timber table, perhaps circular for the space, and the timber will add warmth to the room. Or a glass top table with timber legs. Glass will help the room look bigger. Yellow looks great with black, purple or violet for drama. For something softer add some other warm tones such as orange or a cool green. A rug is a great way to define your dining space by placing it under the table and chairs. Ensure the chairs fit on the rug when not in use. Pick a rug that has yellow to match the chairs and other colours that appeal to you. Use the colours in the rug to determine other design elements such as art, object, trims, and curtains. I have a couple of pages on my other website, dontcallmepenny.com.au for 'what's on sale' and also 'interior design resources' both of which have lots of retailers and suppliers. Brosa is one of them and there are lots of others. Cheers, Penelope...See MoreStyling suggestions needed for my family room
Comments (30)What do you do in the room? I see that you said you want to get "side tables coffee table" but will you use them for anything? Otherwise it's just more clutter to manoeuvre the vac around. Also beware of horizontal space. If you do not have enough storage but you do have tables handy that is where stuff will be dropped. So could you use something incorporating storage, a coffee table with a drawer, a bookshelf or sideboard against the wall? I know some people do not want to make a living space 'all about the television' but is there no television? You also asked "what colors you thinkin for cushions... our house is very neutral with whites and grey tones through out". Do you want to keep it neutral or do you have any colours that you like or do you have a preference for warm tones or cool tones? The one picture you have on the wall does not seem to make the most of that wall. As previous replies have said, choice of artwork is personal. Other people can't tell you what you like. However other people can advise you on how best to display what you like, how to position artworks to best effect....See More- 9 years ago
