I have a couple of these kitchen racks in my pantry and they're great! I store cutting boards, baking cooling racks, flat baking trays, etc in them. Much easier to slide in and out than to stack the items on top of each other in a drawer or on a shelf.

We have a narrow wall extending to the ceiling at one end of the kitchen counter. On the side facing into the kitchen I've put a small appliance garage, and on the other side facing the hall and family room I've put 2 tall Ikea dvd cabinets which hold all our numerous spices. Found this to be an ideal solution which works well for us.

We have a U shaped kitchen with a cupboard on the outside corner, under the bench. We have had 3 slide out baskets incorporated into it. No more losing stuff up the back.

@Jeannie Lovely! In case you haven't tried the photo icon in the comment box, that's the easiest way. Simply click on it and attach the photo from your phone or computer (as you would for an email or Facebook update).

I like some of these ideas but no one has ever come up with a long term solution for the storage of 'Tupperware'. All these plastic bits seem to multiply by themselves, none of them nest together, the lids available never match the containers. By the time you find the right container and its lid the food you were trying to save has spoilt.

No amount of organising the bits lasts for long , next week they are back all over the place.

It also amazes me that you mainly need these containers to store food that is too good to throw out but you can leave it in the fridge for a week and then happily throw it out because it is now no longer 'good' food.

@archimondo I know exactly how you feel. It's pretty frustrating. I have a drawer that looks something like this one. But no amount of organising helps with those lids.

@wuff -- I bought mine a few months ago while on a trip to the USA. It wasn't on holiday and had limited shopping time, which left me with empty luggage space to fill :-). I visited a discount/surplus items store and got them cheap! I'd been looking for months for some, but nothing I saw here came close to the heavy-quality metal of the ones I bought.

Following my return to Oz, I emailed the company enquiring about availability in Australia. I never received a reply. Much to my surprise, I recently discovered that Howards Storage World is now selling them. @wuff I bought something very similar from Howards a few weeks ago for baking sheets. Liked it so much I bought three more, which now hold pie plates, trivets, and roasting racks, and one for breadboards.

I love to cook but hate wasting time so in my cooking zone, I have so much at my fingertips I can almost make a meal without having to move more than a few steps. Instead of gadgets, I've improvised and I love the effect. I have used some really lovely, tiny, brass hooks from a restoration centre and had them screwed straight into my wall so I can hang random things right near the stove like sieves and flipppers. I have the knife magnet too. They're tucked into a nook so only visible from some angles so not chaotic from the main view. I have a bookrack over the stove to hold my pans and colander, and in the drawers next to the stove, rather than fancy dividers I have used the old tall tupperware containers that lost their lids to hold my stirrers, pasta servers etc, all those long things you want in a hurry when cooking. In the island door behind the stove is a one jar deep cupboard for asian saueces and in the deep cupboard under my food prep sink( that's why I don;t have to walk further than a couple of steps, I have a sink right next to my stove, highly recommended) I have a slide out basket from Howards storage which is jam packed with items that are my cooking staples like tomatoes etc. Finally, a compost bin in the island bench. None of this stuff is that special, but put to good use they are wonderful.

Konmari folding.... saves so much space. I can finally fit everything in my drawers and see it all easily. My clothes look so much nicer.

I think its the smartest solution of all because you don't need to buy anything new.

I have to agree on keeping the wires & cords tidy suggestion, I think it can be such an ugly sight seeing and having cords and wires from chargers etc, the can get out of control.

I have sent a great idea that I saw for covering up cords that you need to run along the wall etc, and it just blends in beautifully with the skirting boards, check it out

But one of my quick and easy fixes that I use for a lot of my clients is tier shelving, this can be used in almost any grocery cupboard that has deep shelving, this way you will be able to see everything at the back, before it goes out of date.

It works really well for new developments, like in apartments etc, where space is at a premium, and I very affordable addition. This type of shelving comes in all sorts of sizes, and makes life so much easier. :)
