Help updating 80's house

Hello! I'm interested to know what you lovely decorators would do with the facade and exterior of the house in the second photo? It would be great if there were a variety of budget and not so budget ideas. The driveway will definitely need an upgrade... And will definitely need to lose the lattice and I'm not a massive fan of the window hoods either. A bit further down the track I'd like to hire a professional to give some ideas but in the short term I'm considering changing the windows, removing the lattice and open to any other ideas too!

I don't mind the white but I love the look of black, white and wood too. (First photo)

Cool house. Looks to be around the early 60's from the look of the weatherboards, etc..

Driveway, landscaping and removing the lattice & window hoods will make a big difference. I'd guess the lattice & hoods are there for privacy and sun screening? So replacing it with something else may be the go. Another roller door/s as well. Repaint cladding.

Landscaping should be almost at the top of your list rather than the house so much.

Perhaps consider cladding the handrail in a timber, so re-create the feel in the first photo. If the walls are lightweight, perhaps you can look to increase the size of the windows above the garage to increase light into these spaces.

Love the black/charcoal look as accent colour (with brown undertone to complement bricks). if you could sand back some of the wood and stain it, maybe paint some of it black/charcoal to break it up would look amazing. If the wood does not stand up to sanding (no grain or not made for raw wood look) then you could add some panels to break it up/add texture not too much black - weathertex is a material I've used recently and can highly recommend.

Jessica Craig, I thought you might like to know this. When my daughter was a baby and I took her for swimming lessons, I met another wonderful Mum Wendy and her daughter, Sophie. Sophie's father had recently passed away and so Wendy was trying to adjust to the hand that fate had dealt her. They had not long purchased their house too. We have remained very close all these years and I can report that both Soph and Wendy are a force to be reckoned with. Sophie (now 15) is a talented singer, is doing well at school and has oodles of personality. Wendy is studying online and working towards fulfilling her dream of one day writing a children's book. The house has been renovated and is a very warm and welcoming home. It has not always been an easy road as single mum for Wendy, but it continues to get richer as the years move by. I hope that in some of your harder moments, this may bring some small level of comfort to you.

If this is just a budget improvement then I would try to fix the cracked tiles and missing grout, paint the window frame white and add white shutters on the window, paint the vanity white (although I don't like doing that either) and get new handles and taps, toilet roll holder etc., install a lovely white potted plant, as shown above and white fluffy towels. A new white frame on the mirror or replace it with a slightly smaller white framed one. Then I would save up for a white stone bench top or stone overlay bench top and the cream will go nicely with all of it. Unfortunately your shower seems to be the most dated part. If you try to change the door you may find that you have missing tiles, although new floor tiles in the shower would probably look OK and add a glass hinged door. Good luck.

the two doors are confusing and the glass in the laundry door is darker and makes it more obvious in the photo .. consider a a dramatic new colour for the front door and a small gable roof to create a definite entry porch with extra posts and short entry path with symmetrical planting ...the new gable could be added when you're ready to renew the roof and a light coloured roof with dark trim and a bright new front door eg Colorbond Surfmist with Basalt gutters, eaves and posts with a bright blue door?

I agree with GPG - if you can increase the window size and update to a modern frame (black in keeping with the image you included) it would make a big difference to the look. You could also install some external shutters.

I would update the garage doors with something minimal and replace the latticework at the bottom with a modern timber screen (remove the unnecessary lattice at the top). I would be careful of introducing too many horizontal lines though!

Think about a solid colour garage door and maybe update the handrail to glass.

I love that photo of White House with the black Windows - did you do something like this? I'm in the middle of choosing facade colors for my house & very confused !!! Do you have any pics?! This is what my house will look like , need suggestions of colors ! Def having black Windows...

what a great house before you "update" have a look at some of the Mid Century homes in HOUZZ and stick to the original style instead of making a copy of a different era
