A couple of points to add with regard to the functionality side of things: Grey tiles, means grey grout which will be infinitely easier to maintain, every home that has cream or white floor tiles will ultimately end up with dirty grout lines, no matter how well you look after the floor. Grey tiles also hide dirt/hair etc better than light coloured tiles. From a design perspective, as long as you choose a tile that is quite simple and elegant, grey is almost always in style. Matching things to this colour palette is not so difficult, maybe stay away from microfiber chocolate couches though!

Hey Paul! Firstly, congrats on starting to adult. I'm yet to begin the homeowning part of that journey but nonetheless will relish in offering my thoughts on your male-accountant-esque aesthetic skills. 1) Glass panels - scrap them! $500 could be better spent elsewhere and it's common, like mentioned above, that people don't want the insides of their cupboards visible. 2) Blackbutt laminate floors and gloss white cupboards - matt benchtop colour I think should also be dependant on paint colour of the walls as well as other furniture. Not sure if you've mentioned that? Neutral is always safe though. In terms of flooring, I agree with the other commenters again in suggesting you rip up the carpet yourself and see the situation on your hands. A bit of elbow grease (and probably a few swear words) and you'll have saved some cash you can invest in the appliances. The amount you're investing in renovating the kitchen should also depending on the scope of your other renovations of the place (how much you're changing/investing in living, bathrooms etc). Side note, but an important consideration, is thinking of the kind of future tenants you would want living in the space and what they would consider important. Kitchens are often the heart of the home, so investing a little more here, especially if visible from front door, IMO isn't completely irrational. As everyone has said it looks good but sometimes you just need to update and change. There is products available, Kerlite porcelain cladding for one. Kerlite is a thin porcelain cladding that comes in many colours and textures. Can be used on walls floors bathrooms, outside etc. I had a small court yard with a door leading to the garage. I covered the door and the rendered wall to make it all flush and create a feature wall. Basically there is nothing you can’t cover and the colour and texture range now is unbelievable. Kerlite is definitely not a diy job, you need the experienced tiler. Also it’s been out for a while now and I’m pretty sure there is tile cladding etc etc. maybe google porcelain cladding, there will be similar products. Check it out I highly recommend it.
