Please help us ideas to improve appearance of lounge & rumpus room
Comments (12)Hi annalisa 86 -- I see the lounge as your living room with sofa's, TV and in general, the place where you relax. The rectangular openings in the wall between the two rooms are beautiful, and are a unique feature in a home! Can you please provide more photos of each room to help us see the bigger picture and properly recommend where to place the furniture? Georgina has provided great options for the rumpus room: 1) cinema room, 2) home office, and 3) formal dining room. This is a large room with a sliding door to the balcony, which makes it a room that should be used for a purpose that makes a special statement. Do you love to cook and entertain family and friends? Do you have a barbecue grill out on the balcony? If so, a large, formal dining room would be perfect for this space, particularly during the summer when guests can go outside and enjoy being on the balcony too. Another idea is a game room with pool table, poker table, bar and small pub tables, which again, would be good if you like to entertain. You could give it a sports theme and have another TV here for friends to hang out and watch the game. This idea also goes well with having a barbecue grill and outdoor patio furniture on the balcony, so guests can move between the two areas. Or, you could make the living room a formal room and use it only on special occasions and use the rumpus room as the family room where everyone hangs out, watches TV and relaxes. You could even turn it into a multi-purpose room, where you have the family room, a sewing area (for example) and a home office. Can you tell us if your lifestyle fits any of these suggestions or if any of these ideas interest you? Christi, on behalf of Thos. Baker...See MoreBedroom upstairs v downstairs
Comments (10)We have spent a lot of time over the last few two years on house hunting. We're getting older and wanted to find a house we could live in for the future. Bottom line: nothing with an upstairs living area. We also eliminated houses with upstairs master, simply because there are so many with a downstairs one, and after living with stairs for years, the charm faded. All of that said, if putting the master downstairs squashes your living space too much, go for the better design....See MoreIs this the death of the 'Rumpus Room' ?
Comments (16)Growing up our house was so small, we only had the lounge room which had a tv. A rumpus room was something added on! In the house we have now the closed off room which contains tv and all super electronic stuff is called the tv room. I cannot bring myself to call it the home theatre as I think that's hilarious. We also have the room connected to dining and kitchen which is usually termed family room. Then we have downstairs which is termed man cave but cringe at that because it sounds ummmm bogan. Hope no one feels offended haha :-) It is a bit embarrassing though, we have a house with two people and five televisions and we hardly watch them!...See MoreThoughts on converting garage to rumpus room
Comments (13)i'm wondering why there isn't already an internal laundry door?.. are the floors and ceilings different heights and is the only entry to the garage through the roller door? biggest challenge will be allowing enough room for comfortable stairs that need a small landing area for safety and a door would help with heat and noise and length of new stairs will depend on floor and ceiling heights but my suggestion includes a fully enclosed stairwell with only an openable window at the end for light and so you can call down from upstairs when dinner's ready...despite your plans' dimensions being a little inconsistent there should be enough space to create a good sized study nook and keep a reasonable living area but you should rearrange the existing furniture (leaving at least 1m by a space up to the opening between living and dining) to make sure you like how it feels ...downstairs using only partitians* and without changing roller doors and/or windows my suggestion include a mum's nook to retain light, a secure workshop area and a minimum single garage...the partitian walls could be built with simple stud framing with walls made out of bookshelves, storage cabinets and some wall lining that need not reach the ceiling to retain some light and ventilation and there are some great garage floor and paving paints that could make a clean floor throughout...See Morejamespettifer
