Need opinions and advice on fireplace/TV/living room layout
Comments (8)i'd like some feedback on the two windows, as I am currently looking at the same thing without windows. Why r they there given the expanse of glass on other wall. My mum had two narrow vertical windows either side and as they were un curtained they look like black rectangles at night which I found spooky. They didn't let in much light because of trees outside, but I guess if u had a skyline view say they may be useful. They also compromised positioning of artwork....See MoreAdvice needed on choosing a rug for my living room
Comments (13)Agree with above comments - large rug, darker colours to balance the beige. And I also think the art work is too small and too high. However if you are attached to these pieces they could be hung together on one wall, lower, maybe re-framed in similar frames to give them cohesion (black to match your new cushions?). This would create the effect of a larger art piece. (The centre of your art should be at average eye height - and in that room you are sitting so eye height is lower!)...See MoreAdvice needed on my brown living room wall
Comments (21)I'm surprised to admit I really like the brown. I usually don't like earthy neutrals of any shading but this one is ok, it certainly provided balance for the dark furniture the previous owners had. I love the idea of the side table at 90 degrees to the start of that wall to create a reading nook/dining space and redirect traffic. You could get something reasonable tall facing toward the glass doors to be storage/extension of the kitchen so there is a sense of connection. You could then put paint, wallpaper the back of that cupboard and put up the mirror and a little table for keys. Or even have matching bookshelves back to back and use the one facing the front door as a 'wet' room/shoe storage. Ikea sells so many great units that you can tailor the combination of size and shapes open and closed to get just the right look on each side.If you do this you have to screw the two units to each other so that stand straight and appear as one. If you did use the nook as dinning space you could have all the serving/special stuff in that cupboard so you dont have to go far for setting the table and leave the kitchen cupboards for daily use stuff. When I first moved into my big home from a super tiny apartment I just laid out what I had (plastic dinning set and all) as best I could and moved them around every few weeks till I got the combination of how to use the room right. Then I went and bought more/new furniture over the next 6 months....See MoreAdvice on my living room colour scheme please
Comments (33)It's just that the carpet doesn't sit nicely with the wall colour. You need some accent colour in there so your chair is fine but I would add or replace some of the cushions on the lounge. The artwork is over your head so bring that down to eye level and I would look for a new colour for the wall as that is the easiest to change. Hopefully you don't live in a too warm climate as the carpet is a warm colour and the toning the wall will add to the warmth. I realise that grey is very popular at present so my other suggestion would be a huge grey mat to cover a much larger part of the existing carpet....See MoreShayne Lin
