How far up the wall does the tile go. It looks like 1/2 way.

I'm tiling my bathroom walls and don't want tile up to the ceiling. How far ups hound I go?

Hi Sandy, Yes, It usually is half way.. but there is a lot more to that than just measuring your ceiling height and dividing by 2. It is important to realize that the positioning of your light outlet switches need to be taken under consideration. If you are renovating and gutting your space completely.. I would advice moving your outlets above the chair rail or below your border.. so that it doesn't disturb the design element of the tile or mosaics. In some cases if I am just retiling a bath and not moving any electrical.. I will choose to keep the tile height below the light switches.. or sometimes.. if the lady of the house is tall.. I will move the border up to 52 inches so the border clears the switch.. Another think to keep in mind.. is the bottom of your mirror, where do you want that to fall.. you don't want to hang a mirror that will cover your chair rail pc. These are my recommendations. Before deciding on a colour, don't forget to consider your kitchen cabinetry, benchtop, splashback, etc (and dining furniture)... for example, if you have a classic hamptons (farmer style) kitchen (and furniture) then don't discount a warm white for the walls... it won't look clinical as the warmth will come from the kitchen cabinetry, etc and dining furniture, e.g. But if you have a "hamptons inspired" look with a slightly more contemporary kitchen cabinetry (and furniture), then in my opinion (all nice options above but a bit too beige'ish for me) so I would suggest a light shade of a warm grey e.g. Whichever way you decide to go, try to narrow it down to 2-3 colours, get the small pot samples and paint each one on all the applicable walls as they will all look different at different angles depending on how they reflect natural daylight and the lights at night time... then you may be able to make a clearer decision. Well, it has been a long (and sometimes painful) process but we are nearly at the end of the extension/renovation. We ended up going with a building designer (Dalecki Design) who made a few changes we really hadn't considered (including moving the existing bathroom) which may have cost slightly more but completely changed and improved the master bedroom space. Without the pool it will be close to the upper end of our original budget but still within what we were hoping for so fairly happy with that. Overall the new living area is amazing and filled with light compared to the old design. Will throw in some photo updates once we have finally converted the front yard from a sand pit and finished off the driveway, garage door and fencing.

I like both ideas, however think it's good to consider the practical as well as the aesthetic you are wanting. Consider your space and picture how each would look in the space you have. To throw a few more ideas at you, here are a few pics I just found on Houzz. There are certainly some very cool designs happening in the architectural world. Just decide what moves YOU and to heck with what a builder thinks-it's not his house (even if he is a relative). :)

what a great house! is the garden overshadowed from next door, are there any potential views from upstairs, what's the shape of the roof and what shape roof is acceptable to local council, we need to identify the potential size and shape of the "headroom" for the upstairs floor area, what is the position of the workshop, is the terrace above the carport used, what is the size of the carport, how do you reach the terrace, the steps off the end of the front verandah show "up" does that mean that the carport is higher than the house, what is the distance from the side of the house to the side fence on the carport side, is there an existing porch or verandah next to the laundry, are there steps at the back...and some external photos would also add inspiration
