Bathroom and toilets are still laid out this way even in many new houses. Not everyone likes to have the toilet in with the bathroom. Hence this small circulation area. In some project homes you have two bathroom options, 1 as what yours is, 2 what you want yours to be like.
This area will still be a circulation zone but the bathroom will feel bigger as the dividing walls get removed and you'll have 1 door rather than 2. I just comes down to the convenience of using the toilet and occupying the whole bathroom or having the bathroom available when the WC is in use.
Turning the toilet 90° may not be a cheap option either. Depends if its a slab or on piers.
Thanks - after standing in there last night and using matts on the floor to mark it out, it'll work soooo much better as one room. We also have 2 double door linen cupboards on the outside so thought i could get rid of one and use that space in the bathroom, then means we'd not need to turn the toilet, could stay where it is and add a privacy wall so its not seen upon entry.
Excuse my useless not to scale design skills, but thinking this could work?!?
Could be ok, hard to say without measurements. Even using the original layout but with new fit out would make a huge difference. Just make sure you have enough 'turning' space in front of toilet.
Good idea - i'll check that again. Currently with the 2 doors you can't comfortably get out of the shower without feeling a bit claustrophobic. I guess removing the wall is all dependant on what its made off too, i'm assuming by the age of it its probably asbestos board - not being in the trade that rings alarm bells as being a very expensive task to remove - so keeping existing layout and retiling may be more cost effective? I'll get a professional around to have their expert eye tell me what t do ;o)
