warm white ..gives it a warmer feel.. Wasn't paying attention I bought the wrong globes..natural white is a stark white lol more for offices etc

I picked up the dark coloured carpet runner. This seems to make the hallway look very narrow. I suggest to perhaps try and remove it and see if it looks wider without it. My suggestion is yes it will. For the side wide cavity in the wall surface, you have a choice as others mentioned. However, do stay away from dark coloured paintings if necessary as it does make the hallway look narrower. My choice would be, remove the dark carpet from the hallway and use a large mirror in the wall area. It is than your choice what to put on the surface area of the cavity to compliment the mirror.

Agree with some of the ideas already mentioned of artwork (maybe 3 small framed prints or photos hung vertically given the light you intend to install?) to fill the wall space, tiered stand with fruit, cook books on one shelf and the other can be used for storing stationery, mail etc using a stacked set of drawers (some nice ones available at the stationery/office suppliers). You can hang removable hooks inside the door for keys. I'm not a fan of having "stuff" (papers, keys) on bench tops as it quickly turns into a dumping area and in a thoroughfare, things end up on the floor as people rush past. Thanks Cipiano, we have found it was not that useful to have, it just replaced an old broken fan that was there! So a shame to see it go, but at the same time because we do have the aircons, it is not really a must have! But everything costs a few dollars to remove! So stuck in a dilemma since going to have the ceiling painted this week and wanted to know before that went ahead especially since the style of the kitchen will be transitional style cabinets.
