Comments (2)Well done on your bathroom floor tiles. If your after the 'Hampton' look then you need to go with white cabinetry with marble tops. White will open up your kitchen area. If you decide to put in an island bench then you could go for a navy or black under bench cabinetry for a little contrast but white will never outdate. Good luck!!...See MoreHelp! Comments (51)Sounds like a very stressful situation! If there is absolutely no way the builder will allow you to change things (even if they did, I imagine they would ask you to foot the entire bill of pulling the tiles down and replacing all water proofing in addition to new tiles), I can make a few suggestions for improvement. Firstly I would suggest replacing the tiles above the vanity with a white mosaic, a patterned or a textured feature tile/strip. You could also use this same tile to replace the vertical feature in the shower. There are some beautiful shapes and sizes available to choose from. Secondly I would address the grout situation in this way: Floor - dark colour grout & Walls - Light colour grout. Lastly if it does not prove too difficult or expensive, maybe replace the tiles below the vanity with a plain white tile (could be similar size). Good luck and I am sure once you have a lovely mirror up and some crisp white towels, it will look just wonderful....See MoreDesperately need help with bathroom tiles!
Comments (16)It is a family bathroom with quite a lot going on. I don't think you need a feature subway tile. You already have a marble benchtop, shaker style cabinetwork, and timber accents so you don't need a feature tile as well in a small room. If I understand you correctly you plan to use two types of white tiles on the wall which is a bad move, unless they are made by the same manufacturer and the colour is identical. If the white tiles are even slightly different in colour it will look off. I would keep it simple, not use a subway tile as they are being overused and will look dated in ten years, and stick with just the larger wall tile. Comments (8)I have struggled with these same questions. i have asked for advice from tradespeople, tile sellers, researched many bathrooms by designers and have come to the conclusion that it is ultimately what you personally will be happy with, unless you intend to sell your place in next 5 years. I am told that tiles are the most expensive thing to change if you wish to change the look but tap fittings etc is easy. I think as Kate said, you want to keep something in common across all bathrooms . I have seen one bathroom design change the terrazzo colour from one bathroom to another. If you have the space, accessories can also provide links to the bathrooms... eg towels, Knick knacks, lights etc...See MoreLisa Lindley
