Look at our garden feature... A National Trust church building.

Building a new house adjoining boundary with this gorgeous old church with a brick loo! We can easily make a screen for the loo. And we are required to provide shrubbery or a hedge between us. I think we can keep it about a metre in height.

The space between the house and the boundary however is only about three metres to the boundary. Quite a small area across the back of the house with an alfresco area too. The windows in the living area look out to this old building and I want it to be the focus.. I chose the land and oriented the house for this reason. We are located in Hahndorf, SA. Cool winters, hot summers.

I would appreciate ideas for this three metre area across the back of the house which will be a place for relaxing and summer bbq. What would you say: lawn, artificial lawn, floral colour, or white? What kind boundary hedge that is not too solid?

Am I right in thinking that simplicity is best?
