Random would simply make no sense, and randomly placed or selected items would only stand out, jar your impression or just feel wrong. On the other hand, eclectic pieces need to have a sense of style, that is definite enough to take a shared stage amongst other interesting, unique or beautiful things, perhaps in complete opposition to each other. A strong sense of design is needed to build an underlying theme of a room to use eclectic, seemingly uncoordating pieces to go so well together. I doubt there would be a designer who would think eclectic is the same as random. Although, there are people who have a knack in just putting these spaces together without really being able to articulate why it works, in these cases, the client may question the direction, but results speak for themselves. If it works, it doesn't 'just work' as we say, it is generally very well planned and carefully considered to achieve a random thrown together eclectic room. It can be a celebration of quirky, great, clever or unique in style, colour or design. But the principles to build and coordinate are still necessary to make it work. I personally love bookcases and apocothary drawers, because they house many different objects that I admire for different reasons. They may not all go together, but because they are all houses in one element ( ie bookcase) and they seem to contain their personality on their own niche or shelf, making he overall collection 'eclectic'. However, they are just individual groupings of things that have merit. According to me- the 'collector'. Your eye will define what on what grounds something holds merit, and so real eclectic is determined by you, the client, and never really the designer!

A guest bedroom should be inviting and relaxing but walking into a room with dbl. lge mirrors and seeing yourself twice on every occasion is not my idea of inviting. The chest is nice, how does that tone with the bedset? Could that be put on the wall opposite the curtains, add new crystal knobs and put a tiny chair offside with it and a small picture above with timber frame.How about a quilted beadhead in med. weight fabric to match the colour in the quilt (not navy) and do you need tables each side of bed? Love this - great advice and shining a spotlight on two of the most confusing and misunderstood aspects of the industry by the general public - 1. cost and value. and 2. there is no such thing as a "free" anything. Firstly, low cost doesn't necessarily equate to good value, similarly as high cost doesn't necessarily equate to poor value. The cost/m2 method is only applicable to easily quantifiable (ie volume) building product. In almost all other cases of either renovation and custom building the costs can only be established (accurately) by clarifying and stacking up the various project components/trade breakdown elements involved. This is relevant to construction estimates in both the design and building stages of a project. Secondly, free quoting is not helping anyone get a good price. People will get a far more accurate and reasonable price if builders charged for quoting so that all the time involved is not embedded within inflated profit margins which are necessary/justified to cover the "free work" that the industry seems to accept is just the way it has to be........part of the reason why building has become such an expensive business.
