Where to place a TV

Thank you for any help. The living area looks large but there is only one wall where an entertainment unit can go and it is not centre, has an entry door one end and maybe a desk affair another end. It is 2.7 m of wall to the desk. My rug is 3.2 m. Help! I was thinking of tiling the wall in a tile that looks stacked. Maybe not?
Plan still in infancy so things can change. Lots of glass with stacking doors across front of house.

THat is a lot of windows. If you put it on that wall on a moveable arm, with an L shaped modular couch it might work.

I'm doing my interior design diploma, and although your drawing skills are good, i don't understand "lobog over fg" etc however, how bout the wall that has the bedroom behind it? i assume that is solid? you could see the tv from the kitchen/ dining/ living/ summer. or get a projector and movie screen. i saw that in a tiny house (literally), they stuck it at kitchen entrance when in use. good luck

Hi Mad S - I like many of the ideas above! There will be in fact many things you could do to introduce a more open plan feel to the kitchen/living/dining, and so I would invest in some architectural or interior design advice to provide a masterplan for you so you can stage improvements as you can afford them. For example, it's always ideal to know where north is when making changes, and changes to open up the kitchen and introduce an island bench will vastly improve the feel of the open space, however you may want to add a walk-in pantry given you have the floor space available (only if you want one though). The gas fire would be in the wrong spot when opening up the space, however there is no reason to throw it away - you could move it to a centrally along the same line, or even along the main external living wall. I would keep that small portion of wall parallel to the front door (or extend it slightly/ replace with screen or joinery) to provide the discreet screening you need for a front door, and I would also move the rumpus door down this end so that you have a closed corner to the 'dining' space - so people don't have to walk through all the time and freeing up your options for furniture arrangements. You could even at a later stage aim to upgrade the doors along the living room external wall to the outdoor entertaining area for better indoor-outdoor connection, especially if this was north and you move the fireplace to be in front of full-height glazing. (overlapping posts but doesn't change suggestions especially need for locations of doors and windows) to make space for a 55" TV i would swap rooms and make a media room with a wall of cabinets to include the TV, music, books etc and have a roomier dining room with extra small lounge chairs that can be rearranged when you need seating for more than 4 to watch TV..the lounge could be a sofa bed with a storage coffee table for bedding but best size and placement of all furniture depends on measurements and you will use an accurate plan of the whole apartment (including exact size and location of all doors and windows for choosing furniture, floor and window coverings, appliances, built ins, kitchen cabinets etc etc so if you can make a rough plan showing the distance from the windows and doors to all corners i can make a more accurate plan for you

Personally I would not fix a tv but either have it on a stand so it can be moved to see from pool when wanted or ideally get a projector system and a couple of pull down screens for the large screen movie night.

yeah that wall with the bedroom behind it seems like the only spot to me. Jut make sure you sound proof that wall or you will disturb those who like to go to bed early or sleep late.

I am also in the build stage and originally, I was having a fish tank that was then to become the focal point of the lounge, hence all the furniture was to face the tank. Now, the tank has been scraped and I have, with the help of a dear friend, completely done a 360* with the furniture and was able to decide to hang the tv from the opposite wall.

My point is, if your plan is in it's infancy, in other words not set in concrete, on the drawing board still, then my advice is, CHANGE something, so that the room becomes more balanced!!

No time like now to visualize the space and keep drawing just that room until you have enough windows, doors etc... to satisfy your needs and you will probably solve the problem fairly quickly.

Hi lisofby, I think you'll find the lobog & fg over is actually l0609 which will translate in drafting terms to be a panel of louvres 600 highx900 wide & fixed glass panels over the stack sliding doors. If you have a look at the other windows on the plan s for sliding, l for louvres, f for fixed glass, sd for sliding doors. All draftsman have a slightly different technique for labelling.

lol kylie, i thought it was 60907 which i thought was a mm, and the op said it was small so i figured that can't be right! i will look out for this sexy 10609. s and f though; those are common, i'm guessing as i've seen them on plans we worked on, and drafting lecturer used those. so fg is fixed glass i'm guessing. learn something new.... otherwise as barb says, change it, swap the bedrooms for the living area, and if you can afford it, push everything out by a metre in width or more! you could do less rooms with a door opening to what will be the added on more as finance allows. if the 2409s are bedroom dimensions, it could be very oppressive. good luck!

I would be putting the T>V>etc. on the wall to the L. of the laundry and kitchen.Most T.V.s these days can swivel, so reflected glare will probably not be an issue. lhh

What about closing off the door into main bedroom which is currently tucked into the living room corner, and accessing via the corridor and the wardrobe area.
This would avoid a walking path across the middle of the living area. Make that space easier to furnish and better able to add large sofa prices if needed. With the TV on the wall adjoining the main bedroom.
The closed off door becomes a cupboard or shelving But I recognise that is a structural change and may not be possible. Best of luck.

Hi Liz I'm a bit late to this party but I actually think your layout, walkways and doorways are pretty good as they are. TV on Bed 1 wall on a tiltable swivel mount would be ideal. Sound can be managed by where you put your speakers (if you're adding surround sound). eg put bass under sofa; speech at ear level near sofa; midranges near TV but pointing outwards. A modular sofa with one chaise end in front of the TV would define the viewing area so it's a walk-around not a walk-through. Your rug would fit that layout just fine. Viewing from all of living, dining and kitchen island would be good. But I'll bet you'll want to add a little TV to the kitchen at some point!
