Wall art around an air conditioner?
Comments (14)@newgardener, It's quite a shame that the AC was placed so low on the wall, it would be so hard to sit under it when on, you would get a stiff neck from the cold in no time. It should have been right up below the cornice, then artwork would be simple. If it were me, I'd have it moved up, repair the move and you have your wall back, not particularly an expensive job just a bit messy....See MoreHow can we cover those ugly pipes?
Comments (13)love your house...pipes are a necessary part of most homes and paint has already blended them in a little, the simplest option for the gas bottles is to talk to the gas supplier and a plumber about moving them around the side..as long as they're still accessible for refilling they can be in a more discreet location. A wide "footpath" across the whole back of the house covered with an open pergola and a covered area extending to the brick barbq? with a screen to add privacy from the neighbours would look fabulous and also disguise some of the pipes... add a few big pot plants and some furniture and there won't be any ugly bits...See Morehow to hide air con outdoor unit
Comments (13)"As long as there is sufficient air flow for your unit it will function well", And there in lies the problem. According to that photo the OP does not have enough clearance on the porch to make an enclosure large enough to allow sufficient air flow. Even if they did enclosing the unit allows for re circulation of air that has already had it's temperature raised to cool the condenser coil. If the coils are not cooled properly the unit can't dissipate heat trapped in the refrigerant. This lowers efficiency and can damage components "it protects the unit, adds easy access for maintenance" Protects the unit from what? It is designed to be outside. Sun, wind rain snow bugs etc were all taken into consideration when these machines are designed. I never said operating costs would be unreasonable, I said efficiency would be lowered. Unless you are out there with a set of manifold gauges and are measuring performance, you have no clue how that unit is performing. Reasonable operating costs can only be quantified by the person paying the invoice. If you earn a six figure salary $1000 a month for electricity may seem "reasonable" If you earn $30k a year, not so much. . At the end of the day it's not my equipment they can do what ever they like. They can let the system breathe like it was designed to do, be cool when they want/need to be and live with the ugly box on their porch. Or they can take bad advice, risk damaging their unit, have expensive repair or replacement costs just so it can be cute. Choice is theirs....See MoreHow best to reno our old fibro home, what to do with the sunroom?
Comments (13)it's great looking old cottage that just needs some TLC but the best investment for a rental would be to increase bedrooms without spending so much that the house needs to earn more income/higher rents to sustain a bigger investment ..my suggestion includes where necessary lining and insulating to make it more comfortable, repair or replace windows, make sure electrical and plumbing is in good safe working order, new lightfittings, floor and window coverings, install an extra toilet in the outdoor laundry, or add an üpstairs laundry and pantry, add pergola covered deck(s) to suit outlook and increase good weather living areas...See Morechookchook2
