Dining Room - Improvement Suggestions
Comments (25)Like you said, you obviously have a light issue in the room due to the addition of the corner ceiling light and the need for sheers. Maybe paint the ceiling white. Definitely replace sheers with white plantation shutters and add your beautiful chosen pendant lights over the table. As the table is long maybe you can have the light above the window (and if there is a third one further along) moved in to have them over the table. If the pendant is very large have only one or two and remove the extra light/s altogether. You could also possibly add two wall sconces to the wall opposite the windows depending on the overall room. If you physically can't electrically fit lights on the walls now consider battery candles in the glass flutes. This would give lovely mood lighting. Have the white plantation shutters with no additional curtains but have a very large striped rug either the same red as in your photo with creamy beige to blend with lighter wall; or a light blue and white/ creamy beige rug. The light blue stripe would give a relaxed sense to the room. You may need to have these rugs made up. On the table, change to a larger silver tray and look to improving its content holders to silver and glass, light blue china and one low wide rounded fresh flower vase in silver. For dinner, remove your tall vase of roses and replace with a couple of large glass fluted candle holders with silver base rims with pillar candles either side of the tray. Best wishes....See MoreIdeas for a long dinning room wall
Comments (3)Hi, I think a gallery wall would look great here. To start with you could try a console table - which is basically a long skinny table situated on the wall behind the dining table if there is room to get by. They are normally about 40cm wide. Above the console table you would add an artwork or two. Perhaps a lamp on the console table, some nice books and a vase. I like to put open baskets under console tables to pad them out. Its also a good spot for newspapers, shoes, magazines etc. Then just keep adding artworks to the wall as you collect them over time. You can even use a mixture of family photos, mirrors, kids framed art from school looks great too. Check out these attached photos for some ideas. Comments (30)What do you do in the room? I see that you said you want to get "side tables coffee table" but will you use them for anything? Otherwise it's just more clutter to manoeuvre the vac around. Also beware of horizontal space. If you do not have enough storage but you do have tables handy that is where stuff will be dropped. So could you use something incorporating storage, a coffee table with a drawer, a bookshelf or sideboard against the wall? I know some people do not want to make a living space 'all about the television' but is there no television? You also asked "what colors you thinkin for cushions... our house is very neutral with whites and grey tones through out". Do you want to keep it neutral or do you have any colours that you like or do you have a preference for warm tones or cool tones? The one picture you have on the wall does not seem to make the most of that wall. As previous replies have said, choice of artwork is personal. Other people can't tell you what you like. However other people can advise you on how best to display what you like, how to position artworks to best effect....See MoreMeal room suggestion.
Comments (14)What's the problem with the meals area being visible, and can't you just move the door it if bothers you? What I'm also thinking is how your options work with power points and tv aerial connections. Option 2 makes sense to me. It has a place to eat, a place to relax and watch tv, and a somewhat segregated place to let the kids spread out their stuff, and it's convenient to the kitchen. Formal areas for entertaining are separate. Option 1 reduces useable spaces so that you can display two arm chairs for people coming in the front door?...See MoreUser
