From what you have said, I think smaller separate pieces such as couch and chair(s) rather than a large sectional is likely to work better in the space and still allow for traffic flow. However, if you still have lots to do then don't rush to make large purchases. In the meantime, if your current sectional looks better pulled away from the wall a bit, then perhaps you could rotate the side table so that the long side runs parallel with the sofa arm instead of the wall. Would that help to stop it blocking the doorway and resolve the 'not quite right' placement?

where does the short hallway lead and is it possible to remove that wall? with small children i would be keep as much clear floor area as possible with easy access to storage for games and toys and there appears to be enough space for two x three seater lounges and two small armchairs (that can be easily moved into different locations and but having furniture with open legs instead of covered to the floor and small coffee tables and/or foot stools will help the space feel less crowded

I think you need to change your thinking from 'living room', to 'generously sized entry hall' as you have so many doors and walkways through this space it's hard to imagine it will be a cozy TV nook. I would place a pair of comfortable armchairs towards the corner to the stairs with a round rug to help create a zone within the space, while still allowing a flow around the space for people entering the house. You might also have a side table and ottoman to complete the grouping. Good luck

Hi! We'd suggest you place a small sofa facing the fireplace with 2 lounge chairs either side making a U shape, then a coffee table between the fireplace and sofa. You'll need kitchen stools too. 3 meters between the kitchen bench and far wall is tight, you might be able to squeeze in a small round table. Before investing in the furniture, sticky tape large pieces of newspaper then cut them to size to represent the sofa and lounge chairs on the floor. That way you can see what exactly will fit.
