Oh what a big difference!!! I think once you have painted out those red tiles, the house will look totally different. Loving your lavender, maybe a purple front door and some purple pots on the balcony??

I get stuck on the roof colour. I love Dune with White window frames but it looses its appeal with pretty much everything I add to it.

This is very tempting. I don't think it goes as well with the merbau deck as a nice honey coloured timber would. We have a large deck on the back that's I'm got to consider too.

I found that image earlier also. Its a black isn't it? You may also like Colorbond Ironstone. There was a member on recently that were doing their weatherboard home in Dulux Snoop.

You could always go a greeny-grey... I saw pic earlier of Resene Masala.

I wouldn't paint dark exterior walls for any but Tasmania. Everywhere else gets too hot. Dark colours are lovely on trims.

I've seen a few homes done in navy or the Tardis Chook posted and it does look amazing with lots of white trim but I think you would have to keep the roof very pale. I think the problem with Dune is that it is too "safe" a colour. It has depth to take it up from a pale grey, but stops short of making a statement and then can get lost with anything else you put with it .............. if that makes sense. I know today's paints are weatherproof to a high level but I have to wonder if the darker colours really keep their life as long. Also dark colours absorb heat and with a long hot summer predicted I think the all white gives a cleaner, fresher look.

I do love the dark weatherboard look but it's not always best choice depending on climate. It could make a home uncomfortably hot. (Edit: as chookchook stated above)

FWIW, I think Dune with both those grey roof colours looks good. Don't forget it will be in a green setting. The garden will complete the exterior picture. I understand your not wanting to be carbon copy. I have to wonder if many go for the tried and true combos simply because choosing exterior schemes can get so overwhelming!

Have you considered having a Colour Consultant help?

Alecia - go to your hardware store and ask to see their paint atlas. Unfortunately, most stores hide these away but they have about 4 times more colours than you get in chips and you will often find a variation that may be just one or two shades different that is perfect. Unfortunately you won't be able to get samples, but if you find something you really like it would be worth getting a sample pot to play with.

How big a choice do you get with the roof colours? This might be the place to start and work down.

True, when I've had them match colours in my little country town, they have what looks like a million in their book.

dohraime - I think too many people, certainly in the US, worry about resale.

I guess it depends on the paint Chook, highly specialised paints are often limited, otherwise the sky is the limit.

Looks good. I would still check it out on a paint website, sometimes the style of the house can impact on the overall result. Would you go for a dark grey roof with it?
