What finish on coffee table?
Comments (23)Hi, thanks all and apologies, all my mail went into the junk folder so I didn't see the comments. Yes I used the Annie Sloan chalk paint in graphite with black wax. As it was my first attempt I was very nervous. First I'd tried staining it with minwax polyshades - epic disaster! So I had to sand that down a bit as it was quite glossy and the Annie Sloan didn't stick. Anyway the lady in the shop Said to put clear wax on before the black wax which I did on the top but later I forgot and did black first by mistake and actually preferred that - so you can really muck around with it. I'm so pleased you all like it, my mother was very unimpressed and said she preferred it as it was but oh well, we like it. The paint is a cinch but the waxing takes quite a bit of elbow grease and not a small amount of lint-free rags (especially with black wax) and is quite expensive. Bill attached. Brush I will use again but used all the paint and almost all the wax. Still - Much cheaper than something new. I'm a bit nervous about tackling the large coffee table but I figure I can always sand it down again. The other option is a dark brown/black rub on stain called Java by General Finishes which I can get from the US by Amazon. It says it's the closest to the ikea brown/black Colour what ch could be good. I have another side table so I might try it on that one for a different room and then decide which looks best... Decisions decisions! May end up doing my awful but comfy walnut bed suite in the French Linen chalk pain half strength. I just hate it so much - it's so heavy and dated. Then I can add some nice pictures and make the room 'something'. Thanks for all the compliments - made my day!!...See MoreNeed help deciding on coffee & side tables
Comments (12)Thanks so much for your input everyone. Those who had a look at my idea books, unfortunately they are super outdated and a couple of years old. SInce then we have moved and our style has slightly changed. I do think the majority are right in that a coffee table would be too crowded- Vy the tv unit supports the tv as it is not wall mounted. We mounted it but it looked so out of place that we reverted back to the tv unit. I think i will search for a nice side table to place in between the two recliners and leave the space in the middle. The trunk doesnt look great in the middle as its quite a bit higher than the chairs unfortunately! Thanks again for all your input!...See MoreCoffee or side table recommendations
Comments (21)Yes, Ann I think this room needs a lamp in the corner for extra lighting and also height and I would love a piece or two of wall decor but not necessarily a canvas or print. The room looks bare but isn't ...it's actually quite small by today's standards. Long and thin. I know what I want....just can't find it LOL. At the moment my attention is diverted to replacing my kitchen benchtop with black granite, so the lounge room is on the back burner for the next month or so. The furniture wood is Australian oak, and the lower pieces are black stain rather than paint, so the wood grain is still evident. The tops are distressed and burnished, but still sealed. Lovely quality, (weigh a ton!) and made in Australia. Bought at The SofaShop. We have always had Aussie oak. We were looking for something much lighter, but both fell in love with this....the walls are painted in hog bristle 1/4....See MoreCoffee table ideas?
Comments (4)Hi Fiona, Gorgeous room, an oval table would look beautiful, keep the base in a dark colour to match your side tables, even round would look fabulous , love your sofa and gorgeous rug....See Morebigreader
