I think all the gates and iron appear nicer when they have the same continuity whether they are seen together or not. More uniform, not so busy maybe.

Well the car gate will be solid colourbond steel in deep ocean. That's almost a Tardis blue.

The dog is there more than Badger is. Makes sense.

I think the idea with black is that it makes the gate 'disappear' so that your focus is drawn more to what is behind - house/garden/dogs - whereas with a colour, you see the gate more. I vote black - but chookchook, where do you want people to look?

Lollol! We brought all the gates from Sydney, a dear friend gave them to us for helping him move house. Cost a carpenter to install, but hubby had to help as the back ones very heavy.

oh no, if chook has a sea theme out front, it can mean only one thing, she is not a purple swamp hen......she is a snow bird aussie style. ohh the dreaded snow bird, wants to paint her house either miami turquoise or snow bird taupe, she has fake seagulls, flamingos, lighthouses in the front yard.

Can't do much about all the other flowers, but one bed is always blue. Harder than you think to get low blue flowers. The forget me nots have just finished. Am letting the seeds develop for next year, its a bit messy looking.

Bachelor buttons are also called corn flowers? they grow about 2.5 ft tall. and at least here they tend to go awandering. I don't care, i love them anyway. got mine out of a glorious blue farm field. they were not allowed to use poisons.

Yep me too,, such a beautiful colour but due to so many pesticides used here and in Britain, so very rare, now only in protected areas, like so many of our flora and fauna, gone forever.

The good thing in Britain is that there are many volunteers who make a difference in the countryside at weekends, so is a saving grace, but in Ireland very few people care, too busy watching football in pubs and a different attitude to their surroundings altogether.

I believe that countries are much like horses and children. You can lead them to the water, you can show them how valuable to your future it is. But, until they have that aha moment where they nearly die of thirst and thank goodness you were there, they will refuse to figure it out.

yep,, the oldies are too "dyed in the wool" to do anything and you quite often hear the annoying phrase,, "AAhh well what can I do" so yes the young ones are the generation to encourage,, but presently there are only an odd school which teaches children about their environment.

I went to China in 2010 it was the best thing I ever did, I should write a book, it impressed me in many areas but from what I see I don't think they are too concerned about the local environment, but saying that there are a number of very good conservation measures going on for things like the panda

i get the general impression that china commits to the campaigns that get them international kudos with effecting their ability to make money. They take more measures to protect the panda then the humans in their care.

I guess it's going to come down to how visible you want the gate to.be when I look the black against a light house colour - the black gate is quite prominent, but against the darker house not so much
