@bigreader - I'm curious as to why you would avoid using a version of the wall colour on the trim (this is not in any way a criticism of your comment - I'd just like to understand it better - I've always had matching walls and trim but perhaps that's my lack of imagination).
I'm doing white trims with white walls and white ceiling and doing three versions of the same colour so I know they all sit harmoniously together. It's all personal choice really. Just make sure you know the base of your whites, or they can clash terribly!! Thus why I stick with the same in different strengths!
@jmm1837. :) I learnt a lesson when we painted dad's house Dulux sandy day with 1/4 strength on trims. He hated the colour on the walls but with the matching trims, the only wall option was a weaker Sandy Day.
My last two houses have had wood stained trim or a version of Dulux White. It means I can change the wall colour without repainting the trims. I can get a lot of years out of stained trim without doing anything to it but love being able to freshen or change the wall on a whim. However my partner may not think that's so great (he's rolling the living walls as I type).
